James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is undoubtedly one of the best single-player games of all time, with the fall of the Wild West serving as the perfect backdrop for Rockstar to complete their tight two-part narrative. Set around a decade before the events of the first game, it gives us a lot more lore about Dutch Van Der Linde and the gang he leads, as well as how they ended up clashing head on with John Marston in the original game.
It's a very cool story, and if you haven't played through it yet for some reason, then you really should jump at the first chance to do so when it comes up. For PlayStation players, that may be even easier than ever before, as the game is now available at no extra cost for those who are signed up to the platform's flagship subscription service.
Over on the official PlayStation blog, the company confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available via the PlayStation Plus catalog, for those who are signed up to the Extra or Premium/Deluxe tiers. The download also obviously includes access to Red Dead Redemption Online, with this being the second time that the game has hit the service in this way.
At the same time, many may take this as a sign that their hopes and dreams of a next generation update for Rockstar's epic could be on the way at some point. Calls for a 4K, 60FPS release have been growing, particularly given that there is already a version of the game on PC that isn't restricted in this way.
At the same time, PlayStation have also confirmed that there are some other stellar titles hitting the same service alongside Red Dead Redemption 2. The headline act is probably Star Wars Outlaws, with Massive Entertainment's open-world action-adventure doing a great job of bringing the galaxy far, far away to life, in this medium, once again.
Outside of that, you can also pick up action-adventure Bramble: The Mountain King, isometric RPG The Thaumaturge, Souls-lite, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, 1996 point-and-click adventure Broken Sword – Shadows of the Templar: Reforged, and action-RPG Soulslike Enotria: The Last Song.
All of those are available at the Extra and Premium tiers, while subscribers to the latter also have exclusive access to the arcade banger Time Crisis, in a long-awaited return for that game.
For now, it's simply a case of us having to sit tight and hope that, when Rockstar is done with all this GTA VI nonsense, they turn their attention back to Red Dead Redemption 2 to finally give us a version of the game that really takes advantage of incredibly powerful modern console hardware.
