Although she so often appears in critically acclaimed projects, Rebecca Ferguson's sci-fi release earlier this year proved disappointing to most. Alongside the ever-divisive Chris Pratt, Ferguson starred in Mercy, an AI-based sci-fi thriller that has been ridiculed for its handling of a very topical theme. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the movie's 25% score from critics is the best indicator of its lack of success, with the consensus on the site reading, "Constricting its two stars inside an airless presentation of a clunky techno-thriller premise, Mercy is tedious enough to make you cry uncle."

Thankfully, Ferguson quickly redeemed her year with an important role in the long-awaited Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, followed swiftly by The Magic Faraway Tree, the new fantasy film based on the novel first published in 1939. This is all leading up to Ferguson's biggest release of the year, Dune: Part Three, with the final part of Denis Villeneuve's stunning adaptation of Frank Herbert's literature arriving on December 18. Recently, the long-awaited trailer for the movie finally dropped and earned plenty of positive acclaim from excited fans.

Less than nine months out from Dune: Part Three, the second installment is back on the streaming charts as audiences across the country remind themselves of the potentially confusing lore. Dune: Part Two, which also starred Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in an all-star cast, is currently one of the ten most-streamed movies on HBO Max in the U.S., a list also featuring the first installment and topped by last year's action spin-off From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.

A huge success both with fans of the franchise and with critics, earning a near-perfect 92% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, did Dune: Part Two also prove popular in theaters? The answer is a categorical yes, with an eleven-week theatrical run returning a global haul of $715 million. Split between $283 million in domestic revenue and a further $432 million from overseas markets, Dune: Part Two was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2024.
