Having been off our screens for a little over a year, Reacher is set to make a big return, with two different seasons releasing in 2026. Not only will Prime Video's flagship action show be back for its fourth season in August, but just one month later, the franchise's first spinoff show, Neagley, will also make its official debut.

So far, Reacher has managed to maintain its quality and is a clear fan favorite in Prime Video's library, which explains its strong viewership and impressive staying power. Each iteration has introduced more compelling villains to overcome, and Reacher's great action makes up for its lack of realism, making the series easy to become invested in and stick with.

Although the supporting cast changes year after year, Maria Sten's Neagley has been a mainstay, making it no surprise she is finally getting a show of her own. She has a different personality and skill set than Reacher, suggesting her upcoming project will bring a totally fresh vibe that will provide plenty of reason to watch her solo outing.

However, despite how intriguing it will be to see Neagley as a main character as opposed to Reacher, the spinoff being released just a year after season 4 feels like a double-edged sword. Sure, having so much Reacher-based action back to back will be welcomed, but there is also the risk of Neagley being overshadowed and becoming less impactful.

Reacher Releasing Neagley Right After Season 4 Is Good News For Season 5

On the positive side, Reacher and Neagley releasing so close together is a great sign for season 5. The franchise's popularity and viewership numbers already suggested it had plenty of life in it, not to mention the large amount of source material still left to adapt. However, two pieces of content in 2026 only make its future more secure.

Season 4 will be the fourth installment the main show has put out in five years, proving the turnaround remains quick, even with another project alongside it. Likewise, it confirms that Prime Video is still invested in the IP, as producing a somewhat risky spinoff when things are going so smoothly confirms that Reacher is in a comfortable place.

Even if Neagley fails, the streaming service can always go back to fully prioritizing Reacher, meaning season 5 is all but guaranteed. In addition, the new show could've easily acted as a stopgap to take more time with the original series, so the fact they are releasing back-to-back hints at there being no lengthy gap between seasons.

There is no shortage of books for Reacher season 5 to adapt when it's inevitably renewed, and there's clearly enough investment to keep the project returning annually. With Neagley tucking in right after season 4, Prime Video is seemingly working on making the franchise bigger than ever, meaning they must have huge plans going forward.

Assuming this is the case, there's no reason to expect season 5 to be delayed, meaning we may see it as soon as 2027 or early 2028 at a push. If Neagley also performs well, the spinoff could also be back sooner than expected, proving that Reacher's future looks healthy based on its 2026 slate.

Neagley Releasing Right After Reacher Season 4 Makes The Spinoff Less Of A Big Deal

As much as Neagley's swift release after Reacher season 4 show's strength for the franchise as a whole, it does also create some concerns that the spinoff show may become an afterthought. Regardless of how excited fans are about it, Reacher remains the main event that most viewers will be looking forward to.

Therefore, they may already get their fix before Neagley comes out, and even those who do give it a chance may find it pales in comparison when being compared directly. A six-month or even a year gap would allow it to stand out on its own, rather than feeling like a direct follow-up to Reacher season 4, which will earn harsher scrutiny.

Whereas something like Gen V complemented The Boys while still thriving on its own, it's hard not to help but feel like Neagley is a sideshow to Reacher, given there wasn't enough confidence to release it on its own. As a result, the franchise's longevity will presumably take a hit, since Neagley can never replace Reacher if she's always in his shadow.

Alan Ritchson is set to feature in Neagley as Jack Reacher.

It's great that the Neagley spinoff is releasing in 2026, but it may have been better served coming right at the start or the end of the year to space it out from Reacher, giving it more of a chance to catch people's attention. Instead, it simply comes across as a nice bonus rather than a must-see piece of TV.

Overall, Neagley's release date is both a good and a bad thing for the IP as a whole, and while both it and Reacher season 4 look as though they'll be received extremely well, how smart this scheduling proves to be in the long run will be something to keep an eye on.
