Radio star Mick Molloy lifts the lid on his worst ever celebrity interviews: 'Gene Simmons is the biggest jerk'

Mick Molloy has revealed his worst celebrity interviews ever, claiming two A-list stars gave him a memorably bad chat.

The radio star, 60, appeared on Triple M's Mick in the Morning on Monday and said that KISS singer Gene Simmons and country star Shania Twain gave him two of the worst chats of his career.

'Gene Simmons is the biggest jerk I've ever interviewed in my life. He was the biggest know-it-all d***head; I've never taken an instant dislike to anyone more in my life,' Molloy began. 

'He was telling you why you were wrong before you'd even said anything. A jerk!' 

Molloy added that another particularly difficult interview he had conducted was with Shania Twain, as it was so micro-managed that there was no room for spontaneity. 

'Having interviewed a lot of people, by far and away the worst interview I ever had was with Shania Twain,' he sniped.

He said the interview was conducted in the 1990s when he was still co-hosting a show with Tony Martin, adding that neither of them were impressed by her 'diva' antics.

'She brought about 12 people into the radio studio, who all sat around watching us interview her, as I read questions off her own page sheet that her publicist had handed me,' he said.

'I would ask a question that was there and she would go, "Why would you ask me that?" Tony and I just gave up and started asking stupid questions. I walked out and said, "That is the worst experience I've ever had".'

'Imagine when I read this story today that a former BBC producer, who has worked with the biggest names in pop, says Shania Twain was the biggest diva he ever met during his time in the industry! 

'Thank you... there it is! You owe me an apology, you thought I was over-egging it!'

In 2023, Mick spoke out about some of the more positive interviews he had conducted, revealing a particularly memorable one with a Seinfeld star. 

He described Jason Alexander as 'one of the nicest blokes I've ever met' and said he happily took pictures with adoring fans while the pair shared a meal at a restaurant. 

Molloy has developed a reputation for his cheeky and outspoken nature. 

In 2024, he shocked his listeners by revealing his house was once cleaned out in a robbery - except for one surprising item the burglars didn't take.

The Triple M radio host told listeners on his breakfast show that the thieves did not appear to be fans of his 2002 comedy film Crackerjack.

'My house got robbed, they stole everything of value. All my DVDs and CDs... except Crackerjack, which they left on the coffee table,' he said.

Molloy made his feature film acting debut in the comedy Crackerjack, which focused on his character fighting to save his lawn bowls club from closure.

The film was a huge box office success in Australia, being the highest-grossing Australian movie of the year - and it also boasts a whopping 100% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes.
