EXCLUSIVE: French outfit Pyramide has boarded international sales and French distribution rights to Philippe Lesage’s upcoming drama I Just Want A Great Love Story.
Théodore Pellerin (Becoming Karl Lagerfeld), Stacy Martin (The Brutalist), Félix Kysyl (Misericordia) and Charles Berling (Elle) are due to star in the movie with a resonant title.
Elle producer Saïd Ben Saïd, in Cannes with festival entries The Man I Love and Diary Of A Chambermaid, is aboard to produce the French-language feature alongisde Lesage and Guillaume Vasseur.
Production is due to begin this summer in Canada on the film, whose synopsis reads: “Guillaume, a passionate and idealistic young man, struggles to find his place in life. When his older sister Charlotte—who supports his uncompromising artistic dreams—invites him to spend a few days with her fiancé’s family in a quiet village in Bas-Saint-Laurent, the meeting of the two families leads to life-changing moments for everyone involved.”
Canadian filmmaker Lesage is known for well-received San Sebastian 2015 film The Demons, 2018 movie Genesis, which starred Pellerin and played at Locarno and other festivals, and 2024 drama Who By Fire, which played at Berlin where it won the the Grand Prix of the International Jury of Generation.
As we revealed this past week, producer Ben Saïd’s slate also includes an English-language remake of Cannes hit A Poet, and the next film from Catherine Breillat: The German Cousin, based on the Georges Simenon novel The Krull House about small town hysteria.
