Golden Globes 2026: Priyanka Chopra Jonas & Nick Jonas Reveal Who Controls the Remote at Home
Priyanka Chopra is only human.
Indeed, that’s why the negative comments during the early days of her romance with husband Nick Jonas was hard for her to understand.
“I don’t know what was it about us that rubbed people the wrong way,” the 44-year-old told Variety in an interview publish Feb. 11. “I think there was the intercultural nature of it—different countries, different religions, age gap. It was very hurtful.”
Through the chatter, Priyanka shared that she and Nick, 33—who have been married since 2018—didn’t let it affect their relationship.
“And we both, instead of looking out, just sort of looked at each other, and we were like, ‘It doesn’t matter,’” she said. “So it’s like water off a duck’s back now.”
“We’re eight years in,” the Citadel actress emphasized. “If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice. I stopped thinking about it.”
As for her whirlwind romance with the Jonas Brothers member—with whom she shares 4-year-old daughter Malti Marie—she admits that questioned if his mature demeanor was an act to keep her around.
“We got married really quick, within six months of meeting,” Priyanka explained. “When I first married him, I didn’t know if it was even real. This part of him. Because I was like, ‘This is crazy. This is put on.’ But Nick has this absolute sincerity. It inspires me every day in a profession which requires you to pivot and become whatever you need to put on.
Further doting over the “Jealous” singer’s qualities, she added, “He’s constantly sincere. His whole day, whatever the conversation is, he is sincere. He started working when he was really young. His parents are the most wonderful, levelheaded, absolute saints, so I can see where it comes from. But it’s such a disarming quality about him.”

In fact, Priyanka credits Nick for displaying those qualities and inspiring her to take them on in her personal and professional life.
“He is himself and comfortable in it, and I really learned how to be a lot more comfortable in my awkwardness and my insecurities since I got married to him,” she revealed. “It really continues to be inspiring to me, this sincerity. We don’t see it often enough anymore, that deep truth when you just start talking to someone. You’re like, ‘Oh, this person is completely transparent.’”
Nick previously revealed that being comfortable with their differences has been a key to making his and Priyanka’s relationship stronger.
“I think our age difference was something that I think really bond us,” the “Burnin’ Up singer shared on the Feb. 4 episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast. “And I think I’ve lived a lot of life in 33 years, so I think having someone who has real perspective and depth and wanted to build a life together was something that I was really drawn to.”
