Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Make First Appearance at Sundance Film Festival
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are throwing their weight behind a meaningful new project.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their Sundance Film Festival debut in Park City, Utah, Jan. 24, where they attended a special screening and celebration of the new documentary Cookie Queens.
The film—on which Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, serve as executive producers—tells the story of four young Girl Scouts as they navigate the highly-competitive cookie-selling season, exploring the intersection of innocence and ambition. The project holds personal significance for the Suits alum, who was a Girl Scout herself during her childhood.
During the event, the duo posed for photos with various attendees including Robert Redford’s daughter Amy Redford. Harry paired a black long-sleeve top and matching vest with earth green pants and brown suede boots, while his wife opted for an all-black ensemble consisting of a sweater and flared bottoms.
The following day, Harry and Meghan—who share kids Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4—returned to the festival for the doc’s official premiere, where Meghan stepped up to the podium to deliver remarks.
The back-to-back outings marked Harry’s first public appearances since delivering testimony in London’s High Court in his trial against Associated Newspapers Limited—publisher of The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday—where he offered insight into the emotional toll which the publications’ scrutiny has taken on Meghan.

“By standing up here and taking a stand against them, this has continued to come after me,” the royal said in court Jan. 21, according to People. “And they have made my wife’s life an absolute misery, my Lord.”
Indeed, Harry—who is suing the publisher alongside others including Elton John and David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost—argued that his legal action has only added to the negative attention he and Meghan have faced.
“Through the course of this litigation, it’s only got worse, not better,” he said while fighting tears, per the outlet. “It’s fundamentally wrong to put all of us through all of this again. What’s required is an apology and some accountability. It’s a horrible experience.”
