Prime Video's 15-Episode Sci-Fi Series Is Coming Back For Season 2 & A Spinoff

Prime Video's unique sci-fi series with 15 episodes released so far is officially coming back for season 2 and a spin-off, and it could only be getting started. Prime Video's library of TV shows is one of the best on streaming. There are many hits from different genres, like action thriller Reacher, fantasy The Mighty Nein, sci-fi Upload, and many more.

When it comes to the latter, sci-fi, Prime Video subscribers have been treated to phenomenal shows. The Expanse might not have started at the streamer, but the final three seasons of one of the best sci-fi TV shows of all time were made by Prime Video after it resurrected the series. Another major sci-fi franchise on Prime Video is The Boys.

Multiple The Boys spin-offs have already been released since the original superhero series filled with sci-fi elements, chief among them being how a drug, Compound V, is used to manufacture Supes en masse, debuted. That is a TV show that serves as the perfect example of how long a unique Prime Video sci-fi series could go on for, and how wide its universe could get.

This Prime Video series is Secret Level. The animated series was developed by Tim Miller, who was also behind Netflix's Love, Death & Robots. Both shows share a similar premise, working as adult animated anthologies with genres like sci-fi and fantasy at the forefront. Prime Video's Secret Level distances itself from its predecessor due to its focus being on video games, exploring already established franchises through new lenses, and it is coming back for more.

Secret Level Is So Good That Just Season 2 Was Not Enough

Secret Level season 1 was released on Prime Video on December 10, 2024, with the first eight episodes of its 15-episode debut season arriving on that day. The final 7 episodes were also dropped on the streaming service as a binge release on December 17, 2024, just a week later. On the day that the animated series' first season released its final batch of episodes, Prime Video announced that Secret Level was renewed for season 2. That said, it has been nearly two full years since the show debuted, and we still don't know when Secret Level season 2 will arrive.

Thankfully, Prime Video's commitment to this franchise was reconfirmed in 2026. Secret Level season 1 told stories with characters and universes from both major video game franchises, tabletop RPGs, and underrated releases. Some of those included episodes for Mega Man, Crossfire, Sifu, Dungeons & Dragons, and Warhammer 40,000. The latter holds the title of Secret Level's highest-rated episode on IMDB with an 8.7. That is why it is so exciting that a Secret Level animated spin-off series that will continue the world of that Warhammer 40,000 episode was reported to be in the works by Variety. Henry Cavill being attached as an executive producer is the cherry on top.

Could More Secret Level Spinoffs Be On The Way?

Warhammer 40,000 should be the only Secret Level spin-off series we will hear about for some time, as Prime Video's focus is on getting season 2 ready. It also made sense for the streamer, as Cavill had already made a home out of Prime Video as the former Superman actor worked to launch a Warhammer 40,000 universe on the streaming service, which will include a live-action series that Cavill will star in. That said, there are plenty of other possibilities for new Secret Level spin-offs.

Taking only the Secret Level season 1 episodes, I could see Mega Man, a character that is ripe for a new major TV adaptation, rising with his own Secret Level spin-off. Another project that would make sense for Prime Video is a Dungeons & Dragons series, given the streamer's robust fantasy lineup with the ongoing The Legend of Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It remains to be seen just how big the Secret Level franchise will get, but Warhammer 40,000 is a solid first spin-off.
