When it comes to action, Jason Statham has become a brand unto himself. The actor got his start in action movies with The Transporter (2002) and its 2005 sequel, and now essentially stars in one or two action movies per year, most recently appearing in Mutiny (2026). A Statham action movie usually features one-man-army elements, with the actor often playing a character with a dark past who must take on large groups of enemies. This kind of action movie isn't just unique to Statham, however, and another entry has just arrived with a new star.
Following its release in November 2025, Icefall is now dominating on Prime Video, ranking as the number one movie on the streaming platform, as of writing. The movie, which hails from director Stefan Ruzowitzky, beats other titles lile Good Fortune (2025), Masters of the Universe (2026), Agent Zero (2025), and The Amateur (2025).
Icefall Is Reminiscent Of Great Jason Statham Thrillers
In many ways, Icefall feels like a Statham action movie. Joel Kinnaman takes on the lead role of a grizzled poacher who joins forces with a young Indigenous game warden to find a case full of cash in a crashed plane on a frozen lake. What truly makes the film feel Statham-esque is that the pair aren't just racing against time to find the cash, but also facing off against ruthless criminals and corrupt cops.
Kinnaman may not be a Statham-level action star, but his character, Harlan, has similarities to the types that Statham often plays. Harlan has a dark past and lethal skills, for example, and isn't just looking for a case full of money, but is seeking redemption. Kinnaman also isn't new to the action genre, having starred in projects like Altered Carbon, The Suicide Squad (2021), and Silent Night (2023).
The Icefall Cast Makes It Even Better
Kinnaman isn't alone in Icefall, and the film features supporting actors that add to the movie's appeal. Danny Huston, for example, plays one of the film's villains. Huston is known for films like The Naked Gun (2025), Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 (2024), and The Dead Don't Hurt (2023), as well as earlier titles like The Aviator (2004) and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009).
Icefall also marks the final film appearance of the late Graham Greene, an Indigenous actor known for Dances with Wolves (1990), The Green Mile (1999), and Wind River (2017). Other cast members include Cara Jade Myers, DeVaughn Nixon, Martin Sensmeier, Frida Gustavsson, Will Fletcher, and Oliver Trevena.
Icefall hasn't exactly been a critical darling, but it evidently features enough elements that make it appealing to Prime Video subscribers. Even though Statham isn't featured in the icy action thriller, Kinnaman shows promise as an action star, and the movie has seemingly managed to tap into what makes a Statham action movie so enticing.
