Marvel Confirms Major Heroes Don't Like Each Other, And Never Will

Being a superhero in the Marvel universe means participating in team-ups. For many of these costumed crimefighters, joining forces is a regular occurrence, as evidenced by the existence of Marvel superhero teams like the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Guardians of the Galaxy. However, for other characters, working alongside others doesn’t come as naturally, and more often than not, they’re dealing with threats on their own.

Moon Knight falls into the latter category. While he has been part of teams like West Coast Avengers and Secret Avengers, he’s usually a solo act and rarely gets along well with others, even if they’re on the same side. Now Marc Spector has admitted in his current ongoing title that he doesn’t like some of the members of his current team.

Moon Knight Doesn’t Like Blade, Daredevil, And Ghost Rider

The preview for Marc Spector: Moon Knight #8 picks up immediately after Issue #7’s shocking ending, which saw Moon Knight giving up Blade, Daredevil, and the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider, his teammates in the current iteration of the Midnight Sons, to the Mansion Ravenous, a transdimensional sentient house. This entity, which is currently inhabiting the body of New York gangster Achilles Fairchild, kidnapped Marc’s closest friends and joined forces with Ginnar, the sentient sword-turned-dragon that had been serving the book’s central protagonist before betraying him.

Although the Midnight Sons, including Clea Strange, Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension, defeated Ginnar, Moon Knight nonetheless surrendered his other teammates in exchange for his friends. When the Mansion Ravenous asks him what it felt like to betray their trust, Marc claims he “didn’t feel anything” because the only person on the team he truly likes is Clea. It stands to reason Moon Knight is hatching a plan, but there’s likely some truth in his statement, as he said in an earlier issue that Blade, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider don’t like him.

Moon Knight Goes Way Back With These Three Heroes

Blade, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider will surely make it out of their current predicament intact, but these early pages from Marc Spector: Moon Knight #8 nonetheless remind Marvel fans that just because superheroes work together doesn’t mean they’re chummy with one another. It’s even been teased in the solicitation for Issue #9 that Marc’s actions in this next issue could lead to either him being kicked out of the Midnight Sons, or the team dissolving entirely.

What makes Marc’s supposed dislike of Blade, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider ironic is that these three are among the superheroes he’s worked with the most, although in the latter’s case, it was Johnny Blaze rather than Robbie. Moon Knight and Daredevil have taken down many supervillains together, and Blade, Johnny, and Moon Knight were part of the Midnight Sons roster from Donny Cates’ run with the team. Even accounting for the possibility Marc is exaggerating his feelings to fool the Mansion Ravenous, it’s clear that the most he’ll ever be with these other heroes is a colleague.

As for Clea, it’s unclear whether he truly thinks so highly of her. She was in on Moon Knight’s plan to sacrifice Blade, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider because of their respective histories with possession, so it’s also likely that she factors into how he intends to turn the tables on the Mansion Ravenous. However, that doesn’t necessarily translate to the two of them collaborating closely in the future. Clea previously crossed paths with Blade when he was part of the group known as the Midnight Suns, which included Kushala the Spirit Rider, Magik, Wolverine, and Nico Minoru.
