Power Rangers is kicking off an epic new era for Tommy Oliver, as he makes his return as the franchise’s Green Ranger. While this new beginning is still several months away, BOOM! Studios has already released a tantalizing preview, giving fans a taste of what to expect from this iconic hero in 2026.
Best known for his time as the Green Ranger, Tommy Oliver has one of the most turbulent and memorable journeys in the franchise, embodying both the ultimate hero and a tragic antagonist at different points in his story. His comic-book history at BOOM! Studios has taken him through multiple eras, including being a mind-controlled Green Ranger, the White Ranger, an alternate-reality tyrant known as Lord Drakkon, and eventually a retired mentor.
It is this latter role as a retired mentor that BOOM! Studios is returning in 2026, but this time the story pulls Tommy out of retirement and back into action as the Green Ranger. This return isn't part of an ongoing team book, but a brand-new solo series entirely dedicated to his reclamation of the mantle.

From BOOM! Studios veteran writer Paul Allor (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe) and up-and-coming artist Gustaffo Vargas (ALTIPLANO, Olympos: Nullhunter) come the new series Power Rangers: Green. The first 32-page issue is set to release on August 5, 2026, and will be available at local comic shops for $4.99.
Power Rangers: Green was promoted in the Power Rangers #0 Comics Giveaway Day issue, which was released on May 2, 2026. The special featured a story showing Tommy Oliver surviving as Earth's last Ranger.
The issue serves as a pivotal entry in the franchise’s lore and works as a strong jumping-on point for both newcomers and lapsed fans.
Power Rangers: Green will explore a re-envisioned future for Tommy Oliver, in which the fate of the world is once again at stake. Set in a somewhat dystopian timeline, Tommy is positioned as the last Power Ranger on Earth, and a retired one at that. He now lives a quiet life alongside his found family of misfits.
However, as the preview reveals, that quiet retirement is disrupted when “an unexpected visitor from his past arrives on his doorstep and challenges him to take up the hero’s mantle once more.” The official synopsis poses two central questions for Tommy: “Can he relive the past with this unexpected ally? Will the Green Power Ranger finally return?”
Since it would hardly be a story if Tommy didn't eventually return to his former mantle, it is all but certain that the series will see him reclaim the Green Ranger identity and mark the beginning of a new chapter for the character.
According to ICv2’s BOOM! Studio's exclusive preview, the publisher describes Power Rangers: Green as a story that trades “nostalgia for reinvention.” This signals that Allor and Vargas aim to reshape Tommy Oliver’s legacy rather than simply lean on his long history in the comics.
The series is also teased to explore a confrontation with identity, legacy, and the cost of being the last hero standing. This suggests Tommy will be pushed into deeper emotional territory, forced to confront whether he can still become the hero the world needs, and whether he should take up that burden again at all.
While many details are still under wraps, it is already clear that this will be a bold, character-driven expansion of Power Rangers lore that aims to redefine one of its most iconic heroes.
