Pokémon TCG Pocket's first in-game events are underway, with players able to add several new promo cards to their collection. A new Lapras ex Drop event officially launched today, giving players the chance to add five new promo cards to their collection. Included in the potential prizes is a brand new Lapras ex card, as well as several promo cards with alternate art. Players can earn promo packs by winning a solo battle against one of several Lapras-themed decks.
The Lapras ex Drop event follows a Wonder Pick event that launched at the beginning of November. Once per day, players can participate in a free Wonder Pick that comes with a chance to get free Wonder Hourglasses, event shop tickets, or a Meowth card. Occasionally, a Chansey Wonder Pick may also appear, with the chance to get promo card versions of Chansey or Meowth. These cards are identical to the Meowth and Chansey cards from Genetic Apex, outside of new artwork and a promo stamp. Both of these events add the first post-launch new cards to Pokémon TCG Pocket.
How To Get Lapras Ex In Pokémon TCG Pocket
Solo Battle Event Decks For A Chance At Lapras Ex In Pokémon TCG Pocket
The Lapras ex Drop event allows players to challenge one of four decks, each with different difficulty levels. All four decks focus on Lapras or Lapras ex, with some of the higher-difficulty decks adding the powerful Starmie ex card as a secondary option. Beating one of these decks earns a promo pack that comes with one of five cards, including Lapras ex. While players can typically battle AI players whenever they'd like, the event uses event stamina to limit your ability to collect promo card packs. Players can participate in the Lapras ex Drop event between now and November 18th.
The following cards are available in the promo packs rewarded during the Lapras ex Drop Event:
- Butterfree (Promo)
- Lapras ex
- Pikachu (Promo)
- Clefairy (Promo)
- Mankey (Promo)
All the non-Lapras ex promo cards feature alternate art but are otherwise identical to the Genetic Apex cards with the same Pokémon. Still, the Lapras ex Drop event is currently the only way to get these promo cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Likewise, the Chansey Wonder Drops are currently the only way to get the Chansey and Meowth promo cards.
Screen Rant's Take: A Low-Key First Event for Pokémon TCG Pocket
Pokémon TCG Pocket's First Event Is Geared For Casual Play, But Might Not Hold Interest
Pokémon TCG Pocket is taking things slow and steady with their first events, which fits with the casual tone of the game. Thanks to the different tiers of difficulty, players should be able to collect all the promo cards without too much trouble. Plus, the higher-difficulty Lapras ex decks provide a good challenge for players wanting to test out their skills against a somewhat meta-relevant deck.
The biggest question is whether this is truly a one-time event or if players can eventually grab Lapras ex either through Pack Points or through another future event. My only real concern is that neither event provides enough incentive to keep logging into Pokémon TCG Pocket once you have all the promo cards in your collection.
