It's an exciting time to be a Pokémon fan, as Generation 10, Winds & Waves, was just revealed. Due out in 2027, the game is already generating speculation about exclusive content and which starter fans prefer.

Pokémon Winds & Waves Will Of Course Have Version-Exclusive Content

For Now, We Have Exclusive Outfits

While the official trailer for Wind & Waves hinted at the idea of providing version-exclusive outfits, we got an outright confirmation from The Pokémon Company itself. Yes, each version of the game (Wind or Waves) will have version-exclusive outfits, and you can see what they look like right now in-game and through official Gen 10 artwork.

And here's the full breakdown from The Pokémon Company: "You, the player, will become the main character in this adventure when you dive into the world of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. The outfit your character dons will differ between versions. Just what kind of story could be awaiting you?"

This isn't the first time Pokémon has done version-exclusive outfits. Back in Scarlet & Violet, spring, summer, autumn, and winter outfits were available for each version at the start of the game. Plus, "New" seasonal outfits were introduced with the Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero DLC, as well as distribution-based exclusive appearances.

Given how big the idea of dressing up has been in Pokémon for many generations, it stands to reason that there will still be clothing shops in Winds & Waves. It's entirely possible that Pokémon could even join in on the fascination with cosmetics, given the dressy Pikachu that appear as named NPCs in the game.

Another thing to note, which is prominently displayed in one of the character models for Winds & Waves, is a potential mode of transportation: a Back to the Future 2-esque hoverboard/skateboard. While no one expected Koraidon and Miraidon to return as rideable Pokémon, hopefully these boards can provide the same level of freedom of exploration.

We'll Get More Info This Year

While many fans expected Generation 10 to drop in late 2026, we just got a "2027" release window for Pokémon Wind & Waves. That aligns with the potential launch of Generation 5 remakes later this year, which could still be revealed for Switch 1 and 2.

Expect lots more updates from The Pokémon Company and Game Freak for Pokémon Wind & Waves going forward. That includes larger gameplay stream reveals during Pokémon Presents showcases, as well as singular Pokémon announcements.
