Pokémon Legends: Z-A has had a string of game-altering changes to its online battles recently. Season 12 lifted all restrictions on what Pokémon could be used, while Season 13 pulled an Uno Reverse Card by banning all legendary and mythical Pokémon from Ranked Battles.

Season 14 begins next week, and it'll shake up your team in an unexpected way: Only Flying-type Pokémon will be allowed. You'll be able to use Pokémon from both the base game's Pokédex and the Mega Dimension DLC's Pokédex.

Here's the full list of eligible Pokémon from the Lumiose Pokédex:

  • Fletchling
  • Fletchinder
  • Talonflame
  • Vivillon
  • Pidgey
  • Pidgeotto
  • Pidgeot
  • Gyarados
  • Swablu
  • Altaria
  • Dragonite
  • Charizard
  • Delibird
  • Scyther
  • Emolga
  • Hawlucha
  • Noibat
  • Noivern
  • Aerodactyl
  • Skarmory
  • Salamence
  • Yveltal

And here's everyone eligible from the Hyperspace Pokédex:

  • Farfetch'd
  • Rotom (Fan Rotom only)
  • Flamigo
  • Rookidee
  • Corvisquire
  • Corviknight
  • Starly
  • Staravia
  • Staraptor
  • Squawkabilly
  • Zubat
  • Golbat
  • Crobat
  • Rayquaza

You can only have one of Yveltal or Rayquaza on your team. For online Ranked Battles, your Pokémon's levels don't matter as they'll all be automatically set to level 50 to keep the playing field (somewhat) even.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A's Ranked Battles pit four trainers against one another using the game's unique real-time mechanics. You'll have a team of three Pokémon and will earn a point for each time you knock out an opponent's Pokémon. Just like with the base game, Mega Evolving your Pokémon is the key to victory.

Just like past seasons, Season 14 will reward you with various Mega Stones. You'll get Greninjite, Delphoxite, Chesnaughtite, Baxcalibrite, Sceptilite, Swampertite, and Blazikenite stones for ranking up from Rank Y through Rank S, respectively.

Season 14 will begin on Wednesday, July 15, at 11:00 p.m. PDT and run until Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 6:59 p.m. PDT. With its focus on Flying-type Pokémon, now might finally be the time for that shiny Pidgey you caught in the early game to show what it's made of.
