Over recent years, a potential Pokémon Legends 3 has been rumored with the codename 'Project Galar' attached. With rumors suggesting that it will release around 2027-2028, Project Galar would be set 1,000 years in the past, with a focus on the ancient Galar as players discover the origins of Dynamax and Gigantamax, and the creation of the infamous Poké Balls.
Although it is just a mere rumor right now, leaks continue to swirl and now, according to yet another insider, Project Galar's potential has left fans feeling divided.
According to Light, in a since deleted Tweet, Pokémon Legends: Galar/Project Ringo will be a "Pikmin-like game where you command groups of up to 30 Pokémon." Set in the ancient Galar, players will form wild alliances with Pokémon in order to battle massive Dynamax foes in a theme based around "AI x Physics". The leak continues by revealing that Pokémon Legends: Galar/Project Ringo will have an emphasis on Pokémon behavior, group dynamics, and environmental interaction with the objective being to craft the first Gigamax Poké Ball using ancient technology.
Of course, this leak is worth taking with a pinch of salt as Pokémon Legends 3 has not been officially confirmed by Nintendo or Game Freak. Additionally, with Pokémon Winds and Waves expected to be the next major release in the long-running franchise, all attention is sure to be on the start of Gen 10. However, there is no denying that plans for future titles will also be on the drawing board, so could we really be heading back 1,000 years?
In the past, both Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Legends: Z-A have been more experimental than the other mainline entries in the Pokémon franchise and, as such, they have not always been successful. Released back in 2025, Pokémon Legends: Z-A was met with mixed reviews, with criticism for its visually restricting city being its biggest complaint. As such, fans are feeling hesitant about Pokémon Legends 3, especially as, according to these recent leaks, it is expected to be its most ambitious and experimental yet. As such, potential fans took to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours to share their thoughts.
"Sounds fun," one user shared. "I like that they struck gold with Legends Arceus' gameplay loop, but still decided, "nah, we're just going to experiment with every new Legends game. I didn't like ZA as much as Arceus, but it was still a very novel way to play a Pokémon game. An antic-themed Pokémon in which you command an army of Pokémon against giants sounds really fun." Another fan agreed, adding, "I am with you. At least they will try something different on the Legends series. There are so many Pokémon games... so I encourage that. Why not? It could be fun, I agree."
For now, Pokémon Legends 3 remains a mere rumor, but there is no denying that its experimental style may just fill fans with hope once more.
