Pokémon Emerald Switch Port Unites Gamers Everywhere

3 weeks ago 24

Pokémon Emerald is the final game of the third generation for the franchise, and the definitive experience from that time. It's arguably one of the more interesting games in the history of the series, and it incorporates elements and 'mons from earlier releases into one genuinely compelling package.

We are very much in an era right now where older games have started to return to the fore, as the major players in the industry make them available via backwards compatibility and online subscription services. As such, it's little surprise that thoughts have started to return to Emerald, and its sister games, and whether we might see them soon on modern hardware.

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post asking the community if they felt that the games were likely to be released on the Switch eShop any time soon. Not only did fans feel that it would, most of them can't wait to live in the world where they have such easy access to a classic time in Pokémon history.

"It's basically free money for them, with minimal time and money invested, so I think it's only a matter of time. I also find it weird that they didn't at least give a rough timeline, considering people would absolutely salivate at the chance to get Gen 3 on their Switch, especially Emerald. Personally, I think later this year would be perfect to bridge the time between now and the Gen 10 release," one comment read.

While another added, "I've always said if you give me access to old games on new hardware, I will stop emulating. I've spent $20 on dumber s**t than a Pokémon game. So, hopefully, they keep putting 'em out and not into NSO addon because I won't to pay for a subscription like that."

"It's currently impossible to complete the National Dex in Fire Red/Leaf Green right now because they haven't released al the games lol. I don't understand. Just do it. Separate them by generations if you want, but release Emerald," a third said.

It is a fairly safe bet that Nintendo, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company will want to get as much value as possible from the older games in the series, and releasing Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald seems like a great way to do that, bearing in mind how many other games they have done it for already.

It will also give us something Pokémon related to do while we wait for the arrival of the tenth generation, which in and of itself looks like a major next step for the franchise.
