Pokémon fans can sometimes get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of projects that are thrown at them in any given year. Whether it's official or fan-made, gaming or TV-related, there's a lot of Pokémon out there.
Over on Reddit, fans have celebrated the release of Pokémon Decades, a game meant to honor the storied franchise's decades-long history.
Pokémon Decades Is A Marriage Of Past And Present
It Pays Homage To All Eras Of Pokémon
With 1025 species to find, Pokémon Decades is a massive undertaking, and a wonderful way to tie all of the prior decades of Pokémon together in one fan game. Taking place in the Beatha region, you'll find Pokémon from Kanto (Gen 1) to Paldea (Gen 9), along with the combined Mega, Z-Power, Dynamax, and Terastallization mechanics all in one game.
Here is how the creator describes it: "Pokemon Decades is a 100% completed Gen 9 Legends ZA fan game, in the Gen 4 art style featuring all Battle Gimmicks, Mechanics, and Pokémon through Generation 9. Collect, train and battle with all 1025+ Species available in-game and take on the 18 Type Masters, to prepare yourself for defeating the world ending power, contained within the Zenith Domain."
Crafted for nearly a year, Pokémon Decades was just released in its "finished playable state" this month. In all, there are 18 type masters, one final boss, one Super Boss, 51 mystery zones, and a Battle Paradise/Safari Zone to explore. There are also a whopping 547 starters to choose from.
So far, fans are pretty excited, with one user noting: "Wow, this game looks fantastic, I just read through the entire page, and I can't believe that this took you only 8 months to work on, and all by yourself too! I think you've single-handedly restored my confidence in video game development."
Another player writes: "I love how unique an experience this is. Obviously, more about fun battles than anything, but the changes to Pokémon and the unique take on the usual gym structure is a breath of fresh air I desperately need right now."
This Brand-New Fan Game Looks Fantastic
It's On Our Radar
So far, the 30th anniversary of Pokémon is coming along swimmingly. We're set to potentially get a new generational reveal this week, and fans haven't stopped making games. It's a win-win, as folks can get a healthy dose of official and non-official content this year, in the form of brand-new and updated games.
It's a good year to be a Pokémon fan. Other than shortages for the physical TCG, there's a lot going on in just about every facet of the franchise, from the most casual to the top competitive levels.
