A huge 100-hour RPG available for free on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S has been made available to play right now, following its appearance during Gamescom 2026. The Opening Night Live showcase is a stage for dozens of games, which are being presented ahead of the event. There are several Gamescom 2026 announcements, including a new soulslike RPG by HoYoverse, the creators of Genshin Impact, as well as the return of Game of Thrones in 2027.
One of the games presented during the showcase was Once Human, an open-world RPG that had already been announced. Showcased during the Opening Night Live event on the official The Game Awards channel on YouTube, it was revealed that Once Human has been released today, August 25, for free on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The game is entirely free to play, and all you have to do is download it on your preferred platform and start playing.
Once Human is a third-person RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world that has you controlling a survivor. In fact, this game also features several survival-based gameplay mechanics, as you’ll need to fend off hordes of enemies while gathering resources in an open-world map. Once Human became free for a while a few months ago, as the title was going through an open beta period, but now it is fully available to all.
To endure the hardships of Once Human, you’ll be able to rely on allies, as this is a multiplayer game. Like most survival games, gathering resources and establishing a base is of the utmost importance. Developed and published by Starry Studio, Once Human has been available on PC (via Steam) and mobile devices for quite some time now, but it’s now becoming playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
