Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to ignore the trick-or-treaters than by locking yourself indoors, closing the curtains, and getting stuck into a brand-new video game? Well, there is something better, especially if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, as Sony has dropped two bonus free downloads just in time for the spookiest night of the year.

On top of the free games that have already been added to the PlayStation Plus library for October, PlayStation Plus Premium members can enjoy two extra offerings which include demos of some of 2026's biggest releases: Mortal Shell 2 and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.

First released back in August, Mortal Shell 2 is an action RPG from Cold Symmetry, and serves as a standalone sequel to Mortal Shell. As such, you will not have to have played the original 2020 release in order to enjoy this freebie.

Featuring a clean, agile and grounded combat system with a mix of both ranged and melee combat, players will inherit the ability to possess warrior shells, and, as such, will gain the power to dethrone false gods and redeem a ravaged world.

Here at Screen Rant, our very own Leo Faierman awarded it an impressive 9/10 in his review, titling it "The Joy of Feeling OP In This Satisfying Soulslike Sequel."

It’s not as obstinate as a mainline soulslike, nor is it as sophisticated, grandiose, or philosophically profound. But it’s a fantastic dark fantasy action-RPG, original and strange, replete with options to soften or sharpen its challenge curve. When my character completely passed through the digestive tract of one of its massive bosses, I thought to myself: yeah, Mortal Shell 2 is something special indeed.

As for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, it launched back in August as the third installment in the A Plague Tale series whilst also serving as a prequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence. In the action-adventure game by Asobo Studio, players take on the role of Sophia as she journeys to the Minotaur's Island in the hopes of confronting a mythical creature believed to be at the heart of a devastating curse. Featuring a lot fewer rats than previous installments in the series, Resonance was awarded a respectable 7/10 here at Screen Rant, with our review reading:

With a new protagonist and setting, not to mention an entirely different genre archetype to follow, Resonance successfully differentiates itself from its predecessors in many ways. But it also feels hampered by outdated game design and a story that, while not without its powerful moments, is too frequently haphazard and messy to be considered better than Amicia and Hugo's. Resonance is a very good, well-crafted game, but it isn't exceptional enough, either mechanically or narratively, to be called truly great.

Both Mortal Shell 2 and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy are now available as Free Game Trials for PlayStation Plus Premium members, and so, if you are eligible, make sure you check out two of 2026's biggest releases by experiencing up to three hours of gameplay.
