Apparently, it would seem that play has some limits over at Sony, with PlayStation gamers facing a string of unfortunate news in the past few weeks. While PlayStation has spent the past three decades establishing itself as one of gaming's biggest brands, the platform is headed into one of its most troubling eras in recent memory.
Sony has increasingly embraced a digital-first strategy, with the PlayStation 5 Pro launching without a built-in disc drive and a recent announcement confirming physical discs would be phased out for upcoming releases starting in 2028, a move that sent shockwaves throughout the industry. While many players have welcomed the convenience of digital libraries, others remain concerned about game preservation, ownership, and the long-term future of physical collections.
Further, after high-profile studio closures, the cancellation of multiple live-service projects, and the abandonment of several planned releases, including the recent cancellation of the PS4 version of Dying Light: The Beast, it would seem there's no end in sight. And in yet another blow to PlayStation gamers, the launch of a highly anticipated new piece of hardware has officially been delayed indefinitely (via PushSquare).
After heavily promoting the launch of the new FlexStrike PS5 Fight Stick controller, PlayStation has officially issued an update on the PS Blog stating the following:
Due to unexpected production delays, FlexStrike wireless fight stick will launch at a later date. We will share an update soon. We’re working to ensure we deliver the best possible experience to our players with FlexStrike, so we’re taking extra time to put the finishing touches on the product. We apologize for this delay and look forward to bringing the FlexStrike experience to the community when it launches.
While players who already pre-ordered the FlexStrike will be contacted about next steps and whether or not they'll receive refunds or be issued orders when they become available, there's currently no information on when the FlexStrike will actually be ready. The FightStick was originally planned for an August 6 release, set to coincide with the upcoming launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
Sony Interactive EntertainmentWe now know that the FightStick will definitely not be making that release date based on the new update, so gamers can expect to wait at least until after August for any further updates on the hardware's future plans. That said, the other PlayStation hardware announcements, which include the 27” Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook and the Pulse Elevate wireless speakers, are still planned for their original release dates of August 27, 2026, as of this writing.
