It is hard to believe that it has only been six years since the PlayStation 5 first launched. However, launching during the midst of a global pandemic, dealing with stock shortages, and an army of scalpers is bound to make an impact, especially as it meant that many fans could not get their hands on the console for months after its launch.
On top of that, the PlayStation 5 is hardly known for its exclusive games, as there are not many to talk about. That being said, with Sony's plans to make exclusive games... well, exclusive once more, and no longer launching them alongside a PC port, the future may be changing for Sony.
At the time of writing, there is no official confirmation of the PlayStation 6 being in development, but we can expect that to be the case. Despite it feeling as though the PlayStation 5 has hardly had its time in the spotlight, and the PlayStation 5 Pro acting as a mid-generation launch, it is almost time to move on, but in the meantime, Sony is still working on making the PS5 its best console yet with regular updates and software patches.
That is the case for June 2026 as Sony has announced its latest system software update for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles. Version: 26.04-13.42.00 comes alongside a simple tweak: Improved system software performance and stability.
This may not seem like a lot, and hardly worth getting excited over, but anything that makes our consoles run and perform better is always a win, and paves the way for some upcoming releases up until the launch of the PlayStation 6.
However, when the news of the latest update broke over on r/PS5, users used the opportunity to poke fun at the meager update, and one that Sony releases quite regularly.
"My PS5 is so stable I can put my horse in it," one user joked, while another said, "I can confirm this stability update stopped my PS5 from wobbling even without the stand."
"Guys, my PS5 has become an Immovable Rod-like entity from DnD," another read. "I tried to push it back down to the top of my entertainment center, but it was too stable. I think it's become a stability point for the entire universal constant."
Listen, I said the recent software update was nothing to write home about, but it is good that users are not taking it too badly, and making light of the situation. After all, any update such as this is a good update, and one that will make our experience with the PlayStation 5 a whole lot smoother.
