Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.

Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.

PlayStation 5 gamers can currently get their hands on one of 2026's best-reviewed games so far for the low price of nothing at all. The best part is you can download and install this free teaser without PlayStation Plus, making it a truly free offering with no strings attached.

There are already plenty of free games to play on PlayStation 5, especially if you have a PS Plus subscription. But what about if you don't want to pay that monthly fee for whatever reason? Fortunately, there are lots of free games and demos that don't require PS Plus at all, which brings us to today's surprise.

Nioh 3 Is Free To Try On PlayStation 5 Right Now

The demo is currently available to download

Nioh 3 Sunset Demons-1

Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo recently released a demo that lets you try the brand-new open-world Nioh 3, a game that's already gotten some seriously impressive reviews. The demo for this third entry will let you play through the first few hours of the game, and will even allow your save data to carry over to the final release version, which is available tomorrow.

Players who manage to beat the demo before February 15 can get their hands on a special Twin-Snake-Helmet for use in the full game, which is a nice little reward.

Nioh 3 currently has a score of 86 on Metacritic, making it one of the highest-rated games of the year so far. In our 8/10 review of Nioh 3, we said it's a great option for fans of action RPGs, even if the open-world elements don't quite always come together.

"Nioh 3 is a great place to start if you're an action fan. Since the styles are so open-ended builds are much easier to manage and craft, and the open world setup is a lot easier to acclimate to than the previous level-select system that mirrored older games.

While the open world of Nioh 3 isn't as fully fleshed out as many other current AAA games, the strong foundation of the Nioh series is still fully intact."

PlayStation Gamers Should Get Their Money's Worth

Games aren't getting any cheaper

As great as it is to make sure you're reading or watching reviews from writers/YouTubers/streamers you trust, the best way to really get a feel for a game is to play it yourself. I'm sure by the end of the Nioh 3 demo you'll have a pretty good understanding of whether you want to play more or call it a day.

While PlayStation Plus offers a ton of extended game trials as a Premium feature, it's important to keep up the tradition of demos that are actually, you know, free. Good on Nioh 3 for giving us a chance to go hands-on at no extra cost.
