There are 12 maps of varying sizes in Phasmophobia, but players may notice the Daily Tasks often challenge them to play on a Medium Map. The size of the map in Phasmophobia often elevates the difficulty of an investigation, as larger maps make it more challenging to find the ghost and easier to lose sanity, which in turn can cause the ghost to initiate hunts more frequently. The size of a map in Phasmophobia is usually determined by the number of rooms, with the smallest being 6 Tanglewood Drive, which has only 10, and the largest, Sunny Meadows, which has 69.
In addition to completing the typical ghost hunt and earning photo rewards, completing Daily and Weekly Tasks in Phasmophobia awards extra money and XP that can be used to help players level up and unlock and purchase better ghost-hunting gear. There are always four Daily Tasks reset at midnight, and four Weekly tasks reset at midnight on Mondays. These can be completed solo or with a team. One Daily Task that frequently pops up in Phasmophobia to confuse players is playing a Medium Map. This task awards 150 in in-game currency and XP, the highest possible Daily Task reward, making it well worth attempting as often as it appears.
How Medium Maps Work
Completing The Challenge
Only two maps in Phasmophobia are officially classified as "medium" in size. These are the Prison and Maple Lodge Campsite. When the Daily Task to Play a Medium Map appears, these are the only two maps that will qualify for completing this challenge. The prison has 31 rooms across two floors and unlocks for players once they reach Level 11. Maple Lodge Campsite has 28 rooms across two floors and unlocks for players at level 13.

How Horror Co-Op Games Like B4B & Phasmophobia Keep Things Scary
Most survival horror video games generated horror by isolating the player, but some horror games can generate horror through co-op gameplay.
Medium maps in Phasmophobia often have more complex layouts than the small house maps or the larger Brownstone High School and Sunny Meadows options. Phasmophobia's Prison Map, for example, has two wings for barred cell blocks that include an upstairs catwalk area, leading to narrower and more claustrophobic spaces through which the ghost might chase players. Maple Lodge is also unique and sprawling, as it is primarily outdoors and split into two campsites with tents, a main office building, a bathroom building, and the cabin in the back by the lake.
Best Strategies For Playing Medium Maps
Best Tips & Tricks
To have the most success playing on Medium Maps in Phasmophobia, consider the following strategies:
Play with a Squad
Medium Maps in Phasmophobia are easiest to tackle with a group of three or more. More ghost hunters means more equipment can be brought in at once, and players can cover more ground when searching for the ghost's room at the start of the investigation. If playing with a full group of four, players might want to consider pairing up, with each pair holding at least one EMF Reader, Parabolic Microphone, or Thermometer, and searching the map's two distinct "zones." In the Prison, these would be the two cell blocks and surrounding hallways; at Maple Lodge, they would be the two campsites or the campsites and the cabin.
Learn the Layouts
To have the best chance of success on a Medium Map, consider looking at the map in the truck or finding an image of the map online to learn the general layout, as well as the typical locations of Breakers, Cursed Possessions, and Hiding Spots. Knowing where the Breaker is can help get the lights on fast. Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia can be used to help either find the ghost room or gather information, and though Hiding Places appear at random and can be blocked depending on the selected difficulty, knowing in general where the safest areas are will help when trying to evade the ghost in a hunt.
Bring the Best Possible Gear
Gear in Phasmophobia is now separated into Tiers, and players can unlock better equipment as they level up. Because of Medium Maps's unique challenges, selecting a full loadout of the highest-tier gear is always a good idea. This means players should plan to bring the maximum allowed number of each piece of equipment they have and at the highest tier currently unlocked. When playing with a squad, use players with access to Tier III equipment to help the investigation run more smoothly.
Make Use of Loops
When being chased by the ghost in Phasmophobia, looping can be a valuable skill when hiding is not an option. Hiding only works in Phasmophobia if players can break line of sight with the ghost, which isn't always easy on maps of this size. Medium Maps provide multiple looping locations players can aim for when in a chase during a hunt. In the Prison, these are around the tables in each cell block and cafeteria. In Maple Lodge, good looping spots include around the picnic tables in the picnic area or either of the campfires.
To loop effectively, players should keep a smudge stick and an igniter in their inventory at all times and be ready to use them if the ghost changes directions unexpectedly.
Don't Neglect the Power of Sound
Phasmophobia's Parabolic Microphone can be especially useful on medium and large maps. When listening with it, make large, slow sweeps and follow the sounds with Tier II and III to help narrow down where the ghost may be moving doors or throwing objects around. Placing sound sensors in each major area of a medium map and having someone listen from the truck can also be helpful for tracking down ghosts, and four sound sensors should cover enough ground to be effective.
Stay in the Light
Medium Maps have more common "dark rooms," or rooms in which, even with the lights on, players' sanity drains faster than in other places on the map. This is especially true of Maple Lodge, which is primarily outdoors and relies on the power of firelight from the campfires or string lights. To maintain sanity and allow themselves time to investigate, players should stay in the light as much as possible.
Standing near a candle or lantern can help decrease sanity drain by a small percentage, and turning on lights along the path to the ghost room once it has been found is an excellent way to keep sanity higher for longer and prevent the ghost from initiating a hunt too quickly in Phasmophobia.
