Peter Krause is leaving 9-1-1's Bobby Nash in the past.

On the heels of Bobby's death, Krause released a lengthy statement about leaving 9-1-1. It was heartfelt and poignant, but it did little to assuage people's sadness over losing him. Since then, the actor has kept his mum about the matter, while the show dealt with the fallout from the tragedy. Behind the scenes, however, Krause was working on a new project for his TV comeback with NBC's Line of Fire.

Speaking with TV Insider during ATX TV Festival where there was a special event for a look back on Parenthood, Krause discussed his soft spot for family dramas. While Line of Fire is far from a straight-up show with a clan at the center of it, the actor said that Josh Safran's “very, very tight script" was his biggest draw to the project. Read his comment below:

“Also a family show. It is just that the family members are all different members of federal agencies. The character I portray is in the Secret Service. Hope Davis, my wife, is a federal marshal. Our daughter is in the FBI. I have another son in the Secret Service who may or may not be having an affair with the president’s daughter. And then my other son is in the DOJ. But we have issues with each other as well.”

“There were a lot of twists and turns. I didn’t see a lot of the things coming. And it was a different character for me to get to play.”

For context, Line of Fire is marrying the tried and tested law enforcement-focused stories with family drama. In the upcoming NBC series “a family of law enforcement agents [that] bridges personal differences and crosses professional boundaries as they tackle cases for the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, and Department of Justice. After a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy, they must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code.” Krause plays the family patriarch, Mike Hollingsworth. Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett round up its ensemble.

While no exact premiere date has been announced thus far, Line of Fire is slotted for Monday nights on ABC. This means that it is going up with some heavy competition from ABC, such as Monday Night Football in the fall and The Rookie season 9 in the winter. At the very least, it doesn't have to directly go up against 9-1-1 season 10, which is maintaining its Thursday primetime slot at 8pm ET. While the first responder procedural has familial aspects as the cornerstone of its storytelling, Line of Fire is the first time in years that Krause will actually be in a proper family drama, which is exciting for those who loved him in Parenthood and even Six Feet Under.

How Line of Fire compares to previous network TV offerings starring Krause is something to look forward to. For what it's worth, it does seem like the actor is genuinely happy to take on this new role. Still, it doesn't mean that his presence will no longer loom large in 9-1-1.
