And who better to join him in this endeavor than his oldest friend, his former bandmate, Ringo Starr. The two surviving Beatles have joined forces on several occasions through the years, but now, for the first time ever, they will be doing a duet. This piece of news sent Beatles fans into a frenzy, and the story of how the duet came together is even more interesting.
Paul McCartney's New Album Will Feature a Collab With His Fellow Beatle
A few days ago, producer Andrew Watt, who produced Paul McCartney's upcoming album, invited a handful of lucky fans to his home in Los Angeles for a listening party. The invitation was to listen to The Boys of Dungeon Lane ahead of its upcoming release and then discuss it with the producer, but they got the biggest surprise of their lives when Paul McCartney himself showed up and took over the event, sharing insight on the songs and how he'd written them. And revealing that it would feature a duet between the two surviving Beatles.

You've got swagger that can't be taught. Rooted in the blues and soaked in street-level attitude, you move through life with a loose, dangerous elegance that draws people in without ever trying too hard. Like the Stones, you've seen it all, done most of it, and somehow look better for it. You're not chasing perfection — you're chasing truth, groove, and that electric moment when everything clicks. Can't always get what you want? You tend to get it anyway.
👑 Queen
You are magnificent, and you know it — not from arrogance, but from an unshakeable sense of self that has never needed anyone's permission. Like Queen, you defy every category people try to place you in. You blend the epic with the intimate, the operatic with the anthemic, the serious with the playful. You live boldly, love fiercely, and perform every aspect of your life as though the whole world is watching. Because sometimes it is. We are the champions — and so are you.
🎸 The Beatles
You have the rarest of gifts: the ability to make something that feels both deeply personal and universally human. For this album, McCartney recruited Ringo Starr for a duet, something that, in his own words, they had never done before. The duet is for the song "Home to Us," a nostalgic track about their childhood and adolescence in Liverpool, but the process of putting it together was a bit confusing. McCartney knew he wanted to have Starr on the album, so he had him come over to Watt's studio to lay down some drum tracks, with no song in mind.
When McCartney listened to it, he got the inspiration to write a song about it. And he realized he wanted Starr to not only play drums but to take on a larger role in the song. So, he sent the track back to him, asking him to sing on it as well. But there was a series of misunderstandings before they could record the song properly.
“I was thinking, ‘Oh, he doesn’t like it...’" McCartney said. Apparently, when Starr sent the song back, he had only added a small part. "He thought I maybe just wanted him to sing on the chorus," McCartney continued. When he asked Starr if he disliked the song, the drummer explained the misunderstanding, and McCartney assured him he wanted him to sing the whole track. "We decided to give one line to me, the next line to Ringo, one line to me. It was really nice, because we'd never done that."
Over fifty years after the breakup of The Beatles, we finally have a McCartney-Starr duet.

'The Boys of Dungeon Lane' Will Be an Ode to Liverpool
Even before the album is out, the theme is clear. While not every song will be about it, The Boys of Dungeon Lane has a deeply nostalgic element. Dungeon Lane is a road in Liverpool, leading up to the shore of the River Mersey, and in his first single, "Days We Left Behind", McCartney talks about the big dreams of "the boys of Dungeon Lane" walking along the shore.
In that song, he also looks back on his and John Lennon's early days as songwriters. The pair would meet at McCartney's childhood home, 20 Forthlin Rd., where they wrote "a secret code to never be spoken." He also spoke to his late best friend, swearing that the "promise" they made during those days "will never be broken."

Although his duet with Ringo Starr is not out yet, the song title, and what McCartney has said about the song, reveal that it's also a very emotional track about their shared past. The song is called "Home to Us," and in it, McCartney talks about growing up in post-war Liverpool, a town that, at the time, didn't offer a lot of prospects and was often disparaged. But while The Beatles eventually left Liverpool as they became famous, McCartney has never forgotten his roots. He frequently returns to his hometown, and has even founded the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts where his old school used to be. He goes back to the Institute every year to hand the graduates their diplomas.
Needless to say, his hometown means a lot to him, and he wanted to honor it in a song with his oldest friend. "Home to Us" is a song about how, "even though where we lived was pretty rough, it was home to us," McCartney explained. "You had mates, and you made the best of it, and you had a great time."
The Boys of Dungeon Lane comes out May 29. The first single, "Days We Left Behind", is out now.
