Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.

Although fans of The Beatles will have to wait until 2028 to take in their lives through the lens of Sam Mendes' Four-Film Cinematic Event, one member of the legendary English rock group is about to go solo this month. Prime Video is set to release Man on the Run, a new documentary focusing on Paul McCartney in the years after he left the band, on February 27. Compared to the more all-encompassing movies, it's a much more intimate window into the multi-talented singer-songwriter's creative revival while working with his own band, Wings, alongside his wife Linda McCartney. Ahead of its arrival, we're excited to highlight the buzzy film with a new image as part of Collider's Exclusive Preview series for upcoming spring movies and television shows.

In our exclusive still, McCartney is seated at his keyboard and beginning the creative process. Leaving The Beatles was a life-changing decision, considering he'd been part of a team with John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr for the majority of his life. McCartney himself said in the documentary's trailer that, at the time, he believed he was done writing music, and he'd become "depressed" with what adult life had next for him. However, Linda was instrumental in getting him back in the swing of doing what he loved with her own musical talents. As an exploration of the artist's journey back to the spotlight, there will be plenty of raw, vulnerable moments of McCartney at work, whether feeling out keys alone or brainstorming with his wife, on the way to making a new decade-defining sound.

Man on the Run journeys through the early solo arc of McCartney's career, from the early material that failed to gain traction in comparison to his former bandmates to the formation of Wings with Linda and the creation of his first of seven platinum LPs, Band on the Run. Using a treasure trove of rare and never-before-seen archival material, like the image below, it's also billed as one of the most vulnerable looks into the life of the artist after The Beatles to date. From the mental and logistical challenges of starting fresh with a new group, to his relationship with his wife, and the unique bond he had with Lennon despite their arguments, all aspects of this transformative period for McCartney will be covered. Academy Award-winning 20 Feet From Stardom documentarian Morgan Neville directed the feature, with McCartney himself serving as an executive producer.

'Man on the Run' Is Part of a More Extensive Celebration of McCartney

MAN-ON-THE-RUN-WATERMARK

Amazon MGM Studios purchased Man on the Run ahead of its Telluride Film Festival premiere last year, with much bigger plans than just hosting the documentary. It's part of an extensive partnership with McCartney and Universal Music Group, also including exclusive new music and merchandise courtesy of Amazon Music that's set to roll out throughout this year. The artist even provided commentary to be included exclusively with the new release and make Amazon's collection all the more special. For McCartney, the documentary also coincides with the release of his novel, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run, an oral history of sorts looking back on the formation of Wings and the post-Beatles break-up era. With the book also available on Amazon, the company has built a considerable collection of all things McCartney for fans.

Man on the Run arrives on Prime Video on February 27. Check out our exclusive image above and stay tuned here at Collider for more previews of the hottest upcoming shows and films of the spring.
