Taken meets Tracker in One Mile, a two-part action thriller starring Ryan Phillippe as a former special forces soldier who is forced to use his skills to track down his daughter after she is kidnapped by a violent and secretive community on a remote island. Amélie Hoeferle, Sara Canning, Sage Linder, Phil Burke, Gabrielle Jacinto, and C. Thomas Howell also star.
The One Mile Films Can't Be Stopped On Paramount+
One Mile: Chapter One and One Mile: Chapter Two are No. 1 and No. 2 on the Top 10 movies on Paramount+ in the United States as of today, October 8, taking over the top two spots for the past six days. They rank above Grizzly Night, Jackass: Best and Last, The Get Out, We're the Millers, Tuner, Rush Hour, An Unfinished Life, and Sleeping Dogs.
This is despite some poor reactions, with Chapter One carrying a 46% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It only has two reviews from critics, which isn't enough to qualify for a score, though one calls it "predictable and forgettable yet also watchable." The other review claims that "while it lacks the inventiveness of franchises like John Wick, it has enough action to keep you entertained."
Chapter Two does not qualify for either Rotten Tomatoes score, though it also has two reviews, with one critic calling it "a forgettable end to the Ryan Phillippe two-part action film series." The other critic writes, "If you liked Chapter One, you may still want to see how the story ends. Just don’t expect this to go the extra mile."
The Action Franchise Is Perfect For Taken & Tracker Fans
Though the One Mile movies are hardly great cinema, they are perfect for fans of Taken and Tracker, or anyone who wants to watch a man with a particular set of skills tracking down their kidnapped daughter and killing those who are responsible. It's familiar and formulaic, but sometimes that is precisely what makes this type of action thriller entertaining.
The Taken franchise was never acclaimed by critics, either, especially the second and third movies, which earned terrible 22% and 13% Rotten Tomatoes scores, respectively. For those who were disappointed to see the Taken franchise retired after three movies, One Mile is the perfect replacement – undeniably fun and packed with slick action, but a largely brainless exercise.
