Grok bots now run Grokipedia, updating the encyclopedia in real time

Grokipedia is now managed by Grok bots, and the encyclopedia is updating itself in real time.

No human editors are pulling all-nighters over disputed footnotes. The machine writes the entry, checks it, and decides whether your suggested fix makes the cut.

How the Grok-run encyclopedia works

Grokipedia launched on October 27, 2025, as a project from xAI. The first release, version 0.1, arrived with more than 885,000 articles.

The model behind it is Grok, xAI’s large language model. Grok generates the articles, fact-checks them, and keeps them updated.

Readers cannot edit pages directly. Users submit suggestions instead. Grok then reviews those suggestions autonomously and decides which ones get approved.

As of early October 2026, Grokipedia carried more than 6 million articles and more than 1.1 million approved edits.

A pause, a new owner and version 0.3

Updates were halted around April 24, 2026.

Before that pause, the project changed hands. Grokipedia was acquired by SpaceX in February 2026, and the encyclopedia continued to evolve under its new owner.

Version 0.3 arrived on September 30, 2026. The release brought visual improvements and resumed the updates that had stalled since spring.

With that release, Grok bots took on active management of the site.

The Wikipedia rivalry

Grokipedia was built with a clear target in mind. Elon Musk has framed it as a response to what he sees as bias on Wikipedia.

His stated ambition for the project is suitably sweeping.

“The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

Many of Grokipedia’s first articles adapted content from Wikipedia under Creative Commons licensing. Critics noticed that early versions replicated Wikipedia entries almost verbatim, especially in popular categories like consumer electronics and luxury goods.

The team signaled it intended to address the borrowed content by the end of 2025. Since then, the platform has moved toward original synthesis and more rigorous fact-checking.

What this means for readers and the knowledge business

The most important change here is structural. Grokipedia removes the human editor from the core workflow and replaces it with an automated reviewer.

Transparency is a pressure point. Wikipedia’s edit histories and talk pages let anyone see how an article was argued into shape. A system where Grok autonomously decides which suggestions to accept puts far more trust in the model’s judgment.

With SpaceX behind Grokipedia and Musk’s name attached, the platform carries a high profile and a clear point of view about what counts as bias.

The things to watch are concrete. Track whether the article count keeps climbing after version 0.3, whether update pauses like the one in April return, and how often approved edits correct errors versus add new material.
