Get ready for a spooky season in Overwatch

Overwatch season 5 starts on Tuesday with new Support hero Doctrine and a new Escort map, Grímsvötn, coming to Blizzard Entertainment's hero shooter. But that's just the beginning, as long-awaited and sort-of-radical hero reworks for Roadhog and Sombra arrive to shake up the hero roster and meta.

Season 5 will also feature a spooky new battle pass, and stylish new skins themed around the concept of Tech Witches and some jazzy new formalwear options. Blizzard also has a new anime collaboration coming, this time inspired by Solo Leveling's Shadow Monarch. Perhaps the most important update comes for Lúcio, who is the recipient of this season's Mythic Weapon skin, which includes a tiny breakdancing frog housed within the weapon.

Here's everything Overwatch fans can expect in terms of cosmetics (and beyond) for season 5, A Grim Doctrine.

A handful of Overwatch heroes are getting Halloween-themed skins in the season 5 battle pass. In the Legendary skin category, battle pass owners can unlock Ghostly Belle Ashe, Jack O’ Ripper Soldier: 76, Ghost Bride Mei, Bat Empress Junker Queen, and Autumn Fox Zenyatta. Three Epic skins are also included in the pass: Skelly Bastion, Witching Hour Brigitte, and Spectral Shroud Symmetra.

The Ultimate version of the season 5 battle pass will include Crimson Regent Doctrine and Ghost Voyager Venture Legendary skins.

Overwatch players with coins burning a hole in their digital wallets can drop that in-game currency on new Tech Witches skins for D.Mon, Shion, Juno, Sierra, and Jetpack Cat. The quintet of high-tech hexy skins will be available in Overwatch's in-game shop Oct. 9–26.

There are also stylish new Legendary skins for Mizuki, Domina, Cassidy, Ashe (and BOB), Moira, and Ana coming to the shop. Plus, Dokiwatch returns to the shop, with skins for Mercy, Ilari, Lifeweaver, Ramattra, and Anran.

Lúcio Treblemaker Mythic Weapon Skin

Lúcio will soon break it down with a new Mythic Weapon skin named the Treblemaker. The highlight of season 5's Mythic Weapon skin is the little blue breakdancing frog and a disco ball housed within. Here are the various tiers for Lúcio's first Mythic Weapon skin:

  • Level 1: Drop the beat with Treblemaker’s base Mythic look, featuring audio effects for healing and firing.
  • Level 2: Make every elimination part of the show with custom kill effects rotating through graffiti-style frog poses.
  • Level 3: Keep the set building as Treblemaker’s custom reactive UI gets more elaborate with your final blows.
  • Level 4: Bring down the house with the full music-inspired flourish and reload experience, starring your very own amazing dancing frog.

Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang Mythic Skin

Support hero Wuyang gets a new Mythic skin in season 5, Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang. Here's the unlock progression on that new look:

  • Level 1: Begin your cultivation with the Dragon Shaoxia’s Mythic form, accompanied into battle by a dragon familiar.
  • Level 2: Advance along the path with new customizations, including flowing hairstyles, ethereal dragon horns, and a mask.
  • Level 3: Command the elements in your own colors with additional palettes that transform you and your dragon familiar together.
  • Level 4: Ascend to immortality with transformative VFX that bring the full power of Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang to life.

Overwatch x Shadow Monarch skins

From Solo Leveling, a quintet of new collaboration skins are coming to Overwatch from Oct. 6–26. The list includes:

  • Genji × Sung Jinwoo
  • Reaper × Igris
  • Anran × Cha Hae-In
  • Reinhardt × Iron
  • Lifeweaver × Choi Jong-In

New Escort Map Grímsvötn

The first new Escort map in nearly four years arrives in Overwatch this season. Grímsvötn is the prison that once held Doctrine and the location is now under the control of Talon. Here's how Blizzard describes season 5's new map:

Once an Overwatch Watchpoint, later controlled by Helix, Grímsvötn has housed some of the world's most dangerous criminals, their weapons, and more than a few mistakes Overwatch probably hoped would stay forgotten. That included Doomfist himself, once upon a time.

Now he’s returned to break Doctrine free, Talon has taken control of the prison, and you’ll push straight through the scene of the crime while the consequences of that escape begin to unfold around you.

There’s fire, ice, stolen technology, forgotten prisoners, and more… maybe take a second to look around between fights. As long as you don’t become the next permanent resident.
