After a brief tease at the end of its most recent trailer, Overwatch 2 has finally revealed the specifics of its Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration. The event includes six skins for different heroes based on characters from the beloved animated series, but most importantly, it gives one hero who has historically been underserved an honest-to-god legendary skin. However, it couldn’t stop Blizzard from playing favorites with Kiriko once more.

Overwatch 2's New Story Missions: Worth The Money?

The Avatar event starts on December 17, but Blizzard has released images and an animated trailer for the crossover that shows off all six characters who are about to get dressed up in cosplay. I’m generally over Overwatch 2’s collabs because it seems like they’re the only thing that Blizzard really does with this game anymore, but I will tuck it for Venture, the non-binary, dig-based hero who has been getting a whole lot of nothing in the cosmetic department since joining the game in season 10. Venture is dressed up as Toph, an earthbender who manipulates stone. This is one of the best fits in the collaboration, since Venture’s kit is all about digging to get around the map. Other skins include Zenyatta as Aang, the titular avatar, Mei as Katar, Orisa as Appa, Genji as Zuko, and Kiriko as Suki.

We still haven’t seen them in motion in the game itself, but Blizzard did release an animated trailer that emulates the visual style of Avatar and its sequel series The Legend of Korra. There’s a brief static clip of Zenyatta and Orisa in their respective skins at the end, but it’s mostly just them striking a pose.

Overwatch 2 just began its 14th season, which includes Hazard, the new tank hero, bringing the roster to 42 characters in total. All of this lands just after the arrival of Marvel Rivals, which is extremely derivative of Overwatch, but also just chaotic enough to feel fresh. It’s been a while since Overwatch 2 had a direct competitor, so we’ll see if and how that prompts Blizzard to shake things up in the future.
