Oscars 2026: Josh Groban Reveals the Impact Rob Reiner Had on Him

Josh Groban is looking back at his time with Rob Reiner.

Months after the When Harry Met Sally director and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were killed at their Brentwood, Calif., home—their son Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the murders—the “You Raise Me Up” singer detailed working with Rob on the Stonehenge concert movie filmed as part of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

And as Josh revealed on the red carpet at the 2026 Oscars, getting to mingle with quartet behind the iconic 1984 mockumentary—Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer play the titular band while Rob’s their documentarian—was nothing short of a dream.

Spinal Tap was on the tour bus every step of my journey,” Josh told Zuri Hall during Live From E!: Oscars, “and so to be able to do that with Rob and Michelle and the incredible guys in Spinal Tap, the funniest people on the planet.”

And there was no movie magic used to recreate the iconic British landmark for the show, which does not have a release date in the wake of Rob and Michele’s deaths.

“We did that at Stonehenge, which they opened,” he explained. “We did it live there. And it was something that I'll always remember working with him. It was just such a tremendous learning experience. I can't wait for people to see it.”

Though fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Josh’s work with the legendary director, he is taking the stage during the Oscars. And though he didn’t share exactly what’s to come when he performs with the Los Angeles Master Chorale during the Conan O’Brien-hosted show.

And while he admitted, “It sounds very serious. I'm on stage with some of the most brilliant singers and musicians of all time,” Josh conceded, “it wouldn't be Conan if we weren't doing something unbelievably silly, and I'm excited for that.”
