After months of nonstop action and major reveals, One Piece is finally taking a step back in chapter #1184 to focus on something fans have waited years to see: Brook’s mysterious past. Outside of his heartbreaking history with the Rumbar Pirates and Laboon, Eiichiro Oda has revealed very little about the Straw Hats’ musician. That is finally starting to change after Brook’s encounter with Gunko, a twisted figure from his past, during the chaos unfolding in Elbaph. The encounter appears to have resurfaced his memories that were buried for almost a century.

As One Piece moves deeper into its final saga, Oda seems determined to fill in some of the biggest gaps left in the Straw Hats’ origin story. Characters like Sanji and Robin received entire arcs dedicated to their pasts, but Brook and Zoro's origins have remained far more mysterious. The latest flashback is finally pulling back the curtain on the Esperia Kingdom and revealing how the Straw Hats musician went from serving as a military convoy leader to becoming a wanted pirate.

Meanwhile, the situation in Elbaph continues to spiral out of control. St. Killigram’s terrifying creation, the Rain God Zaza, is wreaking havoc across the island as part of an effort to capture the giant children. But the mission is far from succeeding. With Zoro and Sanji already moving into action, Killigram and Sommers may be about to face much more resistance than expected.

One Piece Chapter #1184 Release Date and Time

Readers looking forward to Brook’s tragic backstory won’t have to wait much longer, as One Piece chapter #1184 is officially scheduled to release on Sunday, May 31, at 11:00 AM EST. The chapter will be available for free through Manga Plus, Viz Media, and the Shonen Jump app.

While most attention is currently on Brook’s flashback, Eiichiro Oda may have quietly dropped one of the biggest pieces of Void Century lore in recent chapters. During Imu’s confrontation with Loki and Ragnir, a mysterious figure named Dozan was suddenly mentioned. According to Imu, Dozan had to be eliminated because he could not be turned into a loyal servant.

That line has sparked plenty of discussion among readers. Recent chapters revealed that Imu’s Domi Reversi ability can forcibly transform people into demonic soldiers, but the ability seems to have a weakness in One Piece, as it doesn’t seem to work on everyone. Both Luffy and Loki have shown complete resistance to it so far.

The obvious connection is that both possess Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits tied to legendary figures. Luffy carries the will of Nika, while Loki is connected to the mythical dragon Nidhöggr. If those powerful wills can resist Imu’s control, it could explain why Dozan was considered such a threat.

Imu's Sudden Dozan Tease Heavily Hints At The Void Century's Figure

The most popular theories suggest Dozan may have been a previous user of the Nidhöggr fruit during the Void Century, or perhaps the mythical Earth God counterpart to Nika and Zaza. Either way, dropping a name this important in the middle of a major battle feels far too deliberate to ignore. Once Brook’s flashback wraps up, the story may finally start revealing who Dozan really was and why even Imu viewed him as a problem.

Readers also shouldn't forget about Chopper’s game-changing feat in Elbaph. By casually undoing Imu's terrifying Domi Reversi transformation just by slapping the possessed demons back into giants, the Straw Hats' doctor proved his abilities are no joke. This moment heavily implies that Chopper’s Devil Fruit holds secrets far beyond a standard Hito-Hito no Mi.

Between Imu's shocking debut and Loki’s insane strength, the Elbaph arc is completely reshaping the series' power hierarchy.

With One Piece officially racing through its final saga, Eiichiro Oda is clearly setting the stage to reveal the true nature of Chopper's powers. For decades, the World Government has dismissed him as a mere pet with a laughably low bounty, ignoring what his fruit actually brings to the table. But as the story moves forward, this sudden ability to hard-counter the highest authority in the world might finally give Chopper the recognition he actually deserves.
