Warning: Contains SPOILERS for X-Men (2024), Uncanny X-Men (2024), & Storm (2024)

With a long, confusing backstory, full deaths and disappearances, to his credit, one of the X-Men franchise's controversially grossest and most forgotten heroes returns to the fray. Last officially seen in Madelyne Pryor’s Dark X-Men, infamous mutant Maggot set out on an open sea voyage alongside the Morlocks and their leader. Now, it seems that he is returning to action, joining one of the X-Men’s many fractured factions.

As announced by Marvel, the upcoming Storm #6 is part of the "Raid on Graymalkin" crossover event. Following Charles Xavier’s liberation from the Graymalkin Prison, the once-leader of the X-Men is on the run from friends and foes alike, leaving the various X-teams to decide how to best handle Xavier’s freedom.

X-MANHUNT PART THREE! Fugitive Charles Xavier seeks refuge in Storm Sanctuary, Storm’s floating home in Atlanta City, and the (Alaskan) X-Men take notice. Will Storm and the X-Men join forces with Professor X to prevent his return to prison by any means necessary, or will they fall victim to opposing views that will send X-Men against X-Men in a bloody brawl to the death? And making his From the Ashes debut is the unstoppable devourer, the blue-skinned Zulu titan… Maggott!

As new teams form and new allegiances must be drawn, Maggot is emerging from the tunnels to participate in the upcoming fight. Now, it’s only a matter of time to see which side of the conflict the “Unstoppable Devourer” chooses to support.

Maggott Has The X-Men’s Most Notorious Mutant Power – Now He Returns In A Crucial Role

1 Part Mutant, 2 Parts Slugs, All Around Unsettling

The blue-skinned, slug-filled, creepy crawly mutant Maggott is returning to the scene. For readers unfamiliar with the “Zulu titan,” Maggott’s mutant abilities manifest as a pair of sentient slugs, which actively replace his digestive tract. The slugs, named Eany and Meany, are both independent and autonomous creatures that can grow to enormous sizes. It’s unclear whether Eany, Meany, or Maggott possess any other independent powers, but collectively they have the power to recall past events that have transpired in the area surrounding him.

The X-Men's next epic crossover event sees Charles Xavier escaping from prison in X-Manhunt, as the former leader reckons with his tarnished legacy.

Eany and Meany are highly intelligent, being able to hold normal conversations with their host. The beasts require a high quantity of food to survive, constantly depriving Maggott of his own necessary nutrients. Additionally, to call forth Eany and Meany, the slugs must burrow out from Maggott’s stomach, causing considerable amounts of pain for the mutant. Nonetheless, when around for a fight, Maggott has always placed himself in the center of the fray, as any other valiant X-Man would. After the fall of Krakoa, Maggott teamed up with Madelyne Pryor before joining the Morlock's safe haven.

Maggott Is A Good-Hearted Hero, Despite His Poor Reputation

His Morlocksa May Be Gamechangers In X-Men's "Civil War"

Maggott stands up to Azazel for leaving Archangel behind

Both on and off the page, Maggott doesn’t have the best reputation. His powers are admittedly very gross, and he hasn’t always had the best control over his slugs. On multiple occasions, Eany and Meany have escaped their intestinal confines, going on murderous rampages, consuming everything in sight. Throughout the entirety of the 2000s, he was canonically dead, yet also infrequently appeared in various X-Men series. When Maggott finally returned to the franchise with a degree of semi-permanence, he was met with a quip about how no one would want to cosplay him.

Mutantkind’s "grossest" hero is returning to make his stand in the X-Men franchise's "Civil War."

Despite getting the short end of the popularity stick, Maggott is a genuinely good-natured, sweet hero. Before realizing he had mutant powers, Maggott believed he had stomach cancer and was willing to “sacrifice” himself so that his family could save the resources. When the Dark X-Men left Archangel behind after a mission, Maggott was the only hero who protested the entire time. Now, after finding a new home with Callisto and the Morlocks, mutantkind’s "grossest" hero is returning to make his stand in the the X-Men franchise's "Civil War."
