2026 has been a year full of great movies, with the success of some being defined by box office returns, while others' achievements will almost certainly be measured by Academy Awards. The most successful movie of the year, according to the box office, has been Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has earned over $2.5 billion globally. Following behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the second-highest-grossing movie of the year at the box office is The Odyssey, the new historical epic from director Christopher Nolan. Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal star in both films, and the duo have added over $4 billion to their box office total this year. Box office success isn’t the only metric that defines a great movie, though, as one of the best of 2026 failed to even reach $30 million globally.

Earlier in the year, Focus Features enlisted Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) to star in Pressure, the beloved WWII movie set in the 72 hours before D-Day. Budget information for Pressure was never made public, but the film wrapped up its theatrical run with a total gross of around $29 million, which certainly puts it a tier below some of the highest-grossing movies of the year. Pressure was added to Peacock’s streaming library in America around a month ago, and the film has been in the top 10 on the platform for over 30 days now. Better yet, Pressure has been one of the most-watched titles on the VOD platform Prime Video for over 60 days now, and it doesn’t look poised to give up its top spot anytime soon.

What Is ‘Pressure’ About?

Pressure is based on the famous stage play by David Haig, who also worked with director Anthony Maras to adapt the material into a workable script. Additional cast members for Pressure include Kerry Condon, Chris Messina, and Damian Lewis. The official synopsis for the film, which earned strong scores of 89% from critics and 95% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows:

“In the tense 72 hours before D-Day, and with the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, PRESSURE follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg as they face an impossible choice — launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether.”

Check out Pressure on Peacock or on VOD platforms like Prime Video and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of all the most popular movies in theaters and on streaming.
