An official prequel to the upcoming Masters of the Universe film will shine a spotlight on one of He-Man’s most underrated allies. For over 40 years, Masters of the Universe has entertained legions of fans, drawn to He-Man’s fight against the evil Skeletor. From this simple premise came a multimedia franchise that included cartoons, toys, comics and soon, a major motion picture.

Masters of the Universe’s first trailer dropped earlier this year, and began instantly generating fan buzz.

Masters of the Universe’s first trailer dropped earlier this year, and began instantly generating fan buzz. Later trailers and teasers have revealed more of the film’s plot: Skeletor has achieved his dream: conquering Eternia. The Masters, including Man-At-Arms, Fisto and Mekanek, are on the run and Prince Adam has been sent into hiding on his mother’s homeworld of Earth. He must return to Eternia and free it from Skeletor’s clutches.

The trailers for Masters of the Universe have made it clear that Teela will get a good deal of screen time. The daughter of Man-At-Arms, Teela is a fierce warrior in her own right, and a high-ranking officer in King Randor’s army. While Teela’s backstory has changed over the past four decades, one thing remains: she is one of He-Man’s most trusted allies, and will be central in his fight to liberate Eternia. Now, ScreenRant is pleased to provide an exclusive first look at Teela: Daughter of Eternos, a prequel novel by Mackenzi Lee that brings the character to the forefront.

In Daughter of Eternos, Readers Meet a Younger Teela

Mackenzi Lee Paints a Picture of Despair, But Ultimately Hope, in Daughter of Eternos

Mackenzi Lee, author of This Monstrous Thing, introduces readers to a younger Teela in Daughter of Eternos. The novel opens four years after Eternia’s capital city, Eternos, fell to Skeletor. Teela and the rest of the Masters are trying to elude Skeletor’s forces all while staying alive. In the excerpt provided, Teela is in the Eternal Forest, reflecting on everything she has lost in the past few years, including Adam, her best friend.

Lee pulls no punches in describing the hardships Teela and the Masters have faced since Skeletor took Eternos: the constant moving to stay ahead of Skeletor’s goons and the fight to find supplies, medicine and food. Yet through it all, Lee never loses sight that Teela is a fighter. She and the rest of the Masters may be down, but they are not out, and this excerpt makes that clear.

The upcoming Masters of the Universe movie represents the beginning of a new era for the franchise, and the culmination of buzz that’s been building for years. While the first wave of Masters of the Universe was done by the late 1980s, it made a resurgence in the early 2000s, and has been a presence in pop culture since, with new cartoons being produced and aired on Netflix, as well as new comics from publishers such as DC and Dark Horse.

Teela: Daughter of Eternos, which will debut in stores just a few days before Masters of the Universe hits theaters, is the first YA novel in the franchise’s history. While Teela has had major roles in every incarnation of Masters of the Universe, Daughter of Eternos puts her front and center, giving readers not only an exciting prequel to the film, but a fantastic, psychologically-piercing look at He-Man’s most underrated ally.
