Nintendo is hiking the price of its Switch 2 gaming console across territories, with plans to increase the cost to $499.99 in the U.S. beginning Sept. 1.

Since the Switch 2’s release on June 5, 2025, the gaming hardware has been priced at $449.99. Nintendo’s $50 increase comes amid the increased memory and storage costs facing the gaming and tech sector.

The price of the Switch 2 will also increase in Japan (59,980 yen vs. 49,980 yen), Canada ($679.99 vs. $629.99) and Europe (499.99 euros vs. 469.99 euros). The hike in Japan will be effective May 25, while Canada and Europe’s increases will come in the fall along with the U.S.’s rise to $499.99.

Additionally, Nintendo is increasing the price of its Nintendo Switch Online subscription in Japan and says it plans to also raise the price in South Korea.

“We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding,” Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in a statement Friday.

The news of the increase comes alongside Nintendo’s latest earnings results, which tout the Switch 2’s 19.86 million units sold as of the end of March. Over the past year, Nintendo says the original Switch console has sold 3.8 million units.

Turning to software sales, Nintendo says it sold 48.71 million Switch 2 games and 136.91 million Switch games over the past 12 months.

Nintendo says overall revenue increased 98.6% over the past fiscal year (March 31, 2025-March 31, 2026). For the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2027) Nintendo projects an 11.4% decrease in sales.

“Nintendo Switch 2 got off to a good start following its launch in June 2025,” Nintendo said. “We aim to maintain the momentum for the hardware and see it delivered together with software into the hands of a wide range of consumers. For Nintendo Switch 2, we plan to release ‘Yoshi and the Mysterious Book’ in May, ‘Star Fox’ in June, and ‘Splatoon Raiders’ in July. We intend to work to expand our Nintendo Switch 2 business by continuously introducing new titles while maintaining interest in previously released titles. Other software publishers also plan to release a range of titles.”
