Nintendo Alarmo Smart Clock Hits Stores in March, No Membership Needed

Nintendo's high-tech alarm clock, which turns waking up into a game, will be widely available starting in March, when it arrives in stores. The $100 motion-activated Alarmo clock went viral last year for its quirky, interactive features. But access was limited to members of Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo's paid subscription service for the Switch gaming console. Soon, all customers will be able to purchase the clock.

Nintendo's initial Alarmo announcement came at a time when fans were anticipating news of the long-awaited Switch 2. Instead, the company surprised us all with an alarm clock, featuring smart sensors that nudge you out of bed with noises from beloved characters like Mario and Zelda.

In his review, CNET's Scott Stein found the novelty clock to be a charming, fun gift for a kid or Nintendo superfan, but he noted it's not "a drop-dead amazing thing." You can choose from different animated experiences, with sounds and scenes shown on the display and inspired by titles including Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4 and Ring Fit Adventure.

The clock is packed with motion sensor technology that responds to movement, allowing you to wave your hands to hit snooze without getting out of bed. But it's also possible to set a timer to limit how long snoozing can continue or to customize alarm clock styles, either by gradually increasing the sound intensity or maintaining consistent volume. The Button Mode, meanwhile, offers you a more traditional way of silencing the alarm.

The clock also includes a wind-down feature, with soothing music and sounds designed to help you relax before bedtime.

Nintendo didn't immediately respond to a request for comment about which retailers would be selling the device in March.
