Nicola Peltz appears to make subtle dig at mum-in-law Victoria Beckham as she one-ups fashion designer's signature leg pose with snap of herself doing the splits

With the feud between Brooklyn Beckham and his family showing no signs of ending anytime soon, fans think his wife Nicola Peltz is throwing more fuel onto fire by throwing subtle shade at Victoria Beckham in her latest Instagram post.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, the actress, 31, showed off her impressive flexibility as she shared a mirror selfie of her doing the splits. 

The heiress has undergone four months of intensive training and a strict diet in order to play a ballerina in upcoming film Prima, which saw her drop to under 100 pounds (45kg).

And she proudly flaunted the results of her hard work as she stretched out her legs into a straddle splits position during one training session.

However, fans couldn't help but speculate that Nicola was also making a dig at her mother-in-law with the snap, by trying to one-up Victoria's famous leg pose.

The fashion designer, 51, has become known for striking the signature pose, which sees her thrust her leg straight in the air while reclining, forming a 90 degree angle.

She first demonstrated her flexibility back in March 2016, when she shared a now-iconic snap of herself with her slender leg lifted high up in the air and her stiletto-clad foot pointed gracefully as she lay on a couch casually filing her nails.

And like Nicola, at the time Victoria credited her impressive posture down to ballet training, captioning the snap on Instagram: 'It's amazing what you can do in culottes...those ballet classes are paying off!'

The mother-of-four originally trained as a dance instructor as her family wanted her to have a ‘fall back’ career, and studied tap, jazz and ballet at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey. 

Speaking about Posh’s pose, Kirsten McCarron, founder of PureBallet dance classes, said: ‘You need to be dedicated to get results like that.

‘She has done ballet since she was young, which helps, but for great flexibility you really have to stick at it.’

In the decade since she debuted her yoga-inspired move, Victoria has recreated it many times whilst going about her hectic schedule, such as during a business trip in Singapore and on the catwalk during one of her runway shows.

Back in 2020, she shared a snap of her teaching daughter Harper, 14, how to do it, which was taken by none other than Nicola herself, before relations between her and Brooklyn and Victoria and David went sour.

And Nicola isn't the only one to have copied Victoria's pose, with Amanda Holden and Kourtney Kardashian also recreating it on social media.

Kourtney caused a stir back in 2017 when she name-dropped the Spice Girl in the caption of snap of her lying on a couch with her leg pointed straight into the air.

Sharing the shot to Instagram, the reality star quipped: 'Victoria, I'll call u later I just got back from the football game.'

And like Nicola, fans initially questioned whether she was throwing shade at VB with the post, commenting: 'Is this a dig at Victoria?'

However, the pop star was clearly amused by Kourtney's hilarious recreation of her signature pose and took to social media the next day to fire a picture right back at the eldest Kardashian sister.

Demonstrating why she is queen of the pose, Victoria took her own leg snap straight from the shower, clad in a pink satin robe with a towel wrapped round her hair, captioned: 'Right back at you Kourtney Kardashian!'

And most notably, Victoria's two youngest sons also previously made their own attempts to mimic the classic Posh Spice pose.

Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, took to Instagram back in 2017 to share hilarious snaps of them trying unsuccessfully to pull off the pose, as they lamented not inheriting their mum's impressive flexibility.

Then aged 15, Romeo struggled to get his leg all the way up in the air and poked fun at his failure, as he complained: 'Why on earth am I not as flexible?' 

While a 12-year-old Cruz also was unable to mimic the flexible stance, sharing a fun snap of his attempt and making his admiration for his mother known as he captioned the shot: 'Not so flexible! @victoriabeckham #yearsofdance'.
