How well should you know someone before you get married? What happens if their deepest, darkest secrets are revealed, and you can no longer see them as the person you thought you were marrying? Those questions are posed for Robert Pattinson and Zendaya in their new romantic thriller from A24, The Drama. The film is the first of three movies that have Pattinson and Zendaya sharing the screen, with Dune: Part Three and The Odyssey, both coming out later this year. Pattinson stars as Charlie Thompson opposite Zendaya as Emma Harwood, a seemingly synchronous couple in the final days before their wedding.
A24 has released the trailer that shows the moment a confession spills from Emma's lips, Charlie can no longer see her as the woman he fell in love with. All of the quirks about each other were played for laughs earlier in the trailer, now just add to the rising tension between the pair as they continue to make their way down the aisle. Other cast include: Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, and Hailey Gates. The film premieres April 3, 2026, in theaters. The movie was written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli.
The logline for the drama is:
A happily engaged couple is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails.
Everything Unravels in First Trailer for 'The Drama'
The Drama posed challenges for both the characters as well as the actor. Pattinson explained last year that he leaned on his co-star during a difficult scene. “We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,” Pattinson said last year. “I was desperately looking for its meaning, to the point of writing pages and pages of textual analysis … I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene in question.”
He says:
"I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and blah blah blah, and after a while, very calmly, she finally made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning."
Last December, as part of the marketing, The Boston Globe ran a mock engagement ad for Emma and Charlie. In it, the fake announcement said:
"Mr and Mrs. Roger Harwood of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emma Harwood, to Charlie Thompson, son of Mr. And Mrs. Alan Thompson of London, England. Mr. Harwood, a decorated military veteran, is proud to share this joyous news."
It's unclear if in the trailer, viewers will ever find out what Emma's worst deed is, though it's the launching point for the pair's unraveling. Will they make it down the aisle or won't they?
The Drama premieres in theaters April 3. Watch the trailer above. Stay with Collider for the latest updates.
