Ryan O'Rourke is a Senior News Writer at Collider with a specific interest in all things adult animation, video game adaptations, and the work of Mike Flanagan. He is also an experienced baseball writer with over six years of articles between multiple outlets, most notably FanSided's CubbiesCrib. Whether it's taking in a baseball game, a new season of Futurama or Castlevania: Nocturne, or playing the latest From Software title, he is always finding ways to show his fandom. When it comes to gaming and anything that takes inspiration from it, he is deeply opinionated on what's going on. Outside of entertainment, he's a graduate of Eureka College with a Bachelor's in Communication where he honed his craft as a writer. Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.
After three years of waiting, it's almost time to weigh anchor and set sail for the Grand Line. Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation returns in exactly one month for Season 2, bringing Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and the rest of the Straw Hat pirates into dangerous new waters full of wonder, adventure, and new threats aplenty. While Season 1 was all about gathering the crew in the East Blue, the world is about to open up on March 10, with the introduction of bizarre new islands and towns, as well as the criminal syndicate Baroque Works, led by Mr. 0 (Joe Magnaniello). The streamer is now offering the best look yet at the action-packed new journey aboard the Going Merry as the Straw Hats draw one step closer to the titular legendary treasure.
A new trailer for Into the Grand Line has been released that's at times celebratory of how far Luffy and company have come, fun, and forboding for what they're all about to face. It opens with a look at the soon-to-be newest addition to the crew, Tony Tony Chopper (Mikaela Hoover), as the reindeer doctor learns what a pirate in the world of One Piece is — "someone who has adventures and dreams, and never ever gives up." That sums up the Straw Hat captain to a tee, who first appears reveling in the excitement of making it to the Grand Line with his new friends despite all odds. Entering the legendary stretch of ocean is just the beginning, though. In experiencing the new wonders and delicacies, like the port city of Loguetown and the colorful town of Whiskey Peak on Cactus Island, all to the tune of Styx's "Come Sail Away," they draw the attention of Baroque Works, who are out to cut their journey short.
The villainous organization takes center stage throughout much of the rest of the trailer, particularly Miss All Sunday (Lera Abova). She taunts Luffy that he'll watch his friends die and the Grand Line, before the other members jump in and show off their crazy, powerful abilities that are unlike anything the Straw Hats have seen before. Among those set to make their Netflix debut alongside the menacing Devil Child are Miss Wednesday (Charithra Chandran), Mr. 3 (David Dastmalchian), Mr. 5 (Camrus Johnson), Miss Valentine (Jazzara Jaslyn), Mr. 9 (Daniel Lasker), and Miss Goldenweek (Sophia Anne Caruso). Fortunately, they'll have an adorable new crewmate in Chopper to help even the odds, though it'll be a chaotic battle nonetheless, with other threats like Buggy (Jeff Ward) and Smoker (Calum Kerr) also looming.
'One Piece' Season 2 Is Operating on a Much Grander Scale
Setting sail to places never expected and forging lasting bonds through adversity is what the journey is all about for One Piece Season 2, and all the Straw Hats will be back to experience it. Godoy will be joined once more by Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Showrunners Matt Owens and Joe Tracz took the wheel this time around, though this will mark Owens' last stint on the Going Merry, as Ian Stokes will come aboard to work with Tracz for the currently in-production Season 3. Keeping with the grander scale of Into the Grand Line, Netflix also unveiled its big plan to celebrate the new season with fans around the world. In the run-up to the release, the streamer will be hosting advance fan screenings and activations, starting with Mexico City on February 23 and ending sometime in March in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Full details can be found on Tudum's One Piece Season 2 events page.

The original manga's creator, Eiichiro Oda, also released a new letter celebrating the upcoming release with a reflection on the massive streaming success the live-action adaptation has already experienced and what to expect from a season that, he believes, will shatter "all the conventions that were established in Season 1."
