A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."
An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.
The acclaimed new documentary André Is an Idiot chronicles the last days of a man who never took anything seriously until it was too late, and serves as a meditation on laughing in the face of death. Collider is proud to present an exclusive sneak peek of the film and a first look at the movie's poster. André Is an Idiot will premiere exclusively in theaters on March 6, 2026.
In the clip, André Ricciardi and his wife, Janice, detail how they scammed their way into a Caribbean vacation by cheating on the 1990s revival of the classic game show The Newlywed Game. The show tested how well a couple knows each other...but the duo decided to make sure they didn't have to be soulmates to win. With a clever (but not illegal) scheme of choosing the most obvious answers, the most flattering answers, and, failing that, the first one alphabetically, the two dominated the competition. Amid the extremely late-1990s earth tones of the show's set, they ultimately won a trip to a resort on the island of Anguilla. André, however, notes resentfully that they "had to pay f***ing taxes" on the vacation.
What Is 'André Is an Idiot' About?
The film centers around Ricciardi, a middle-aged advertising agency writer who foolishly avoids getting a colonoscopy and eventually learns he has terminal colon cancer. As a man who used humor to tackle everything in life, he recruited filmmaker Tony Benna, who frequently worked with his ad agency, to chronicle the last stages of his life. The film features André's progression through treatment and ultimate acceptance, sprinkled with interviews with friends and family, the creation of a colon cancer awareness campaign, and bizarre stop-motion interludes. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year, where it was hailed by critics, earning a 92% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider's Taylor Gates raved about the film: in her review, she called it "one of the saddest, boldest documentaries" she'd ever seen, while at the same time deeming it "one of the funniest and most mundane."
The poster for André Is an Idiot (which depicts a shaggy-haired, bearded André, a far cry from his buzz cut and goatee look from The Newlywed Game) was designed by Brooklyn-based artist Jaxon Northon. Like Benna, he too worked with Ricciardi's ad agency and knew André well; thus, he was chosen to create the poster as a reflection of André's irreverent sense of humor.
André Is an Idiot will premiere exclusively in theaters on March 6, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates, and if you're 45 or older, don't be an idiot: talk to your doctor about scheduling a colonoscopy.
