Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is going back to high school.

The “Never Have I Ever” alum is set to appear in the second season of the “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle” at Amazon Prime Video. The first season of the series is due to debut on July 1, with Amazon announcing a second season renewal for the show in January. Production on Season 2 will begin this spring.

Lexi Minetree stars in “Elle” as a young Elle Woods during her high school years. Ramakrishnan will play Sam, who is described as “Elle’s foil – possessing all our hero’s ambition and none of her optimism. She’s the founder, editor-in-chief, and lord baron of the school newspaper, the commissioner of the grammar police, and the enemy of joy. If Cosmo is Elle’s bible, The AP Stylebook is Devon’s holy grail.”

Ramakrishnan is best known for her starring role in “Never Have I Ever” at Netflix, which aired for four seasons and received widespread critical acclaim. She has also lent her voice to multiple animated productions, including the Pixar film “Turning Red” and multiple entries in the “My Little Pony” franchise. She recently appeared in the highly-anticipated sequel “Freakier Friday” opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.

Ramakrishnan is repped by CAA, Premier Artists Management, and Felker Toczek Suddleson.

Along with Minetree, the Season 1 cast of “Elle” also includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt, as well as Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. Recurring cast members include Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada. It will also feature the late James Van Der Beek in a recurring guest star role in what will be one of his final onscreen appearances.

“Elle” was created by Laura Kittrell, who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Marc Platt and Amanda Brown also serve as executive producers. Jason Moore directed the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer.
