Nevarro is a planet that was created for The Mandalorian, though this world has since taken on its own history and legacy in the Star Wars galaxy. Ever since its inception, Star Wars has introduced many new planets into its galaxy, particularly core worlds where the Star Wars movies and TV shows primarily take place. For example, the original trilogy had Tatooine, the prequel trilogy had Coruscant, and the sequel trilogy had Ahch-To. For The Mandalorian, this core world has always been Nevarro.

Nevarro was first seen in The Mandalorian's series premiere, when Din Djarin met with Magistrate Greef Karga inside the local cantina. The planet is known for its lava flats, though there are many surprises hidden within its depths. It has been seen again many times since, and has established itself as perhaps one of Star Wars' most important planets yet. Here's everything we know about Nevarro thus far, and why it's so vital to the future of The Mandalorian.

Nevarro Was A Home For The Bounty Hunter's Guild

One Of Many Different Stops

When audiences first visit Nevarro, it's known primarily as the home of the Bounty Hunter's Guild, where Greef Karga manages it from the rundown town's cantina. This is where Din Djarin both turns in and receives his new assignments, something he often has to barter for. This has caused most of the population of Nevarro at this point to be bounty hunters, given the sheer number of them that pop up when Din Djarin attempts to escape offworld with Grogu in The Mandalorian season 1, episode 3.

The world of Star Wars is full of dangerous rogues earning credits as bounty hunters. Here are all of the Star Wars bounty hunters in canon.

Nevarro, however, isn't the only home for the Bounty Hunter's Guild. It seems that there are multiple places for the guild to operate out of, one of which was Tatooine during the events of the original Star Wars trilogy. That may no longer be the case for Mos Eisley by the time of The Mandalorian, but it's far from likely that Greef Karga's bounty hunters are the only ones operating in the galaxy. While many bounty hunters do take their jobs from Greef Karga, there are other options. Din Djarin simply chooses Nevarro for the sake of his hidden covert.

Greef Karga Built The Planet Into A Reliable Trade Anchor

Its Purpose Goes Far Beyond Bounty Hunting

As The Mandalorian progresses, so does Nevarro. In season 1, it's clearly a rundown town, which only becomes worse when the Imperial Remnant tightens the hold they have on that world following Din Djarin's escape with Grogu. After Mando and his allies sweep out the Imperial influence, however, Greef Karga finally has the chance to rebuild Nevarro and its reputation, something he accomplishes with the help of Cara Dune. By the time of The Mandalorian season 2, Nevarro is flourishing, with brand-new architecture and more vibrance than ever.

Still, however, the influence of the Empire isn't completely gone from the planet, and Greef Karga recruits Din Djarin to help himself and Cara Dune remove the last foothold the Imperial Remnant has on the planet: a laboratory. The destruction of this facility allows Greef to truly build up the town and the entire planet, and his developments cause the planet to become one of the most important trade anchors in Nevarro's sector of the galaxy. This also elevates him to the title of High Magistrate, which Greef Karga wears with pride in The Mandalorian season 3.

Where Nevarro Is Located In The Galaxy

An Outer Rim World Along The Hydian Way

To understand where Nevarro's located in the galaxy, it's first important to understand the structure of the galaxy at large. At the heart of the galaxy are the Core Worlds, which include the likes of Coruscant, Corellia, Alderaan and more. These worlds tend to be more metropolitan, and certainly more densely populated than the other worlds of the galaxy. Surrounding the Core are the Colonies, Inner Rim, and Expansion Region, which are then enveloped by the Mid Rim and, on the outermost edge, the Outer Rim. To the far west of these worlds is the Unknown Regions.

Nevarro is located in the Outer Rim, which is where most of The Mandalorian's story takes place. The Outer Rim tends to be overrun by crime quite often, given how expansive it is and how far it is from the Core. This is especially true of The Mandalorian era, when the Empire is falling and the New Republic is struggling to take its place. This transition leads to lawlessness spreading throughout the galaxy, which affects many of Din Djarin's adventures as a result. In turn, it also lets him get away with more, should he need to bend the rules.

Though Star Wars has yet to give Nevarro an official place in the Outer Rim, The Mandalorian has helped to narrow the options down. Greef Karga insists that they're an important trade anchor along the Hydian Way, which is one of the galaxy's most vital trade routes. There are several of these trade routes, and hyperspace routes, spread throughout the galaxy, but this particular one stretches from the Core down to the southern part of the galaxy. Nevarro rests somewhere along this line in the Outer Rim.

Nevarro Will Play A Pivotal Role In The Mandalorian's Future

As The Home Of Din Djarin & Grogu

Nevarro's story is far from over in The Mandalorian. Despite the tragic passing of Greef Karga actor Carl Weathers, the magistrate's story will live on in the world that he worked so hard to improve. This planet is the place that Din Djarin and Grogu now call home, with Greef having given them a cabin on a parcel of land to lie low in between their adventures. With Grogu embarking on his apprentice journeys under his adoptive father's tutelage, Din and Grogu will be in-and-out of Nevarro, but it still remains as an important part of their future story.

Even more important is the amount of influence Nevarro has quickly gained within the galaxy. It's no small feat to be an important trade anchor on such a vital route, and unfortunately, that makes the planet an even bigger target. With Grand Admiral Thrawn having returned to the Star Wars galaxy, it's very possible that any of his future plans for retaking control of the galaxy could target these routes, which would put Nevarro at risk. Either way, it's likely that Nevarro will continue to play an important part in The Mandalorian's story, especially in its upcoming movie.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Poster

The Mandalorian is set after the Empire's fall and before the First Order's emergence in the ever-growing Star Wars universe. The series follows the travails of a lone gunfighter named Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. Acting as the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian has become incredibly popular on Disney+, partly due to Mando’s relationship with Grogu, which the internet dubbed “Baby Yoda” upon his introduction in season 1.
