With the final season of one of the greatest fantasy series scheduled to premiere in a few days, Netflix has amazing news for its subscribers. The series came about in 2014, years after the debut of its fellow fantasy gem, Game of Thrones, in 2011, and since the George R. R. Martin adaptation came to an end, fans quickly found another favorite. Although both shows, of course, can’t replace each other, they share a few similarities, most notably being character-driven and among the best fantasy adaptations ever.
With the new month now in progress, fans have less than a week for the return of the addictive Outlander, whose eighth and final season premieres on March 6, 2026, on Starz. Developed by Ronald D. Moore, the historical drama is based on Diana Gabaldon's acclaimed series and stars Caitríona Balfe with Sam Heughan. Ahead of Season 8’s premiere, Netflix, which houses the show’s past seasons in select territories, has announced when the upcoming season will arrive on the platform.
Most international territories outside the U.S. and excluding the U.K. will be able to stream Outlander Season 8 on Netflix starting March 7, 2026, with new episodes arriving weekly. These countries include France, Belgium, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Switzerland, and South Korea. Keep in mind that the fantasy series already streams on MGM+ in the U.K. Meanwhile, countries like the Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, and Sweden will have to wait until around a year after Season 8 wraps up, and local broadcasters exhaust their exclusive window before it lands on Netflix.
Netflix Has Bad News for Fantasy Fans in the U.S.
As for those in the U.S., Netflix doesn’t have the best news, sadly, as subscribers have the longest wait ahead for the final season of Outlander. Netflix’s deal for the show is with Sony Pictures Television, which can only license to Netflix in the U.S. after an exclusivity period with Starz, which has been two years after the finale airs. So even Outlander Season 7 hasn’t completely arrived on the streamer yet, as its remaining eight episodes are set for 2027, two years after airing on Starz. This implies that Season 8, which is expected to wrap up by May 2026 after ten episodes, won’t be available on Netflix in the U.S. until 2028, over two years away.
Outlander streams on Starz. Stay tuned to Collider for future information about the show.
