Warning! SPOILERS about XO, Kitty season 2, episodes 6 and 8 ahead.
January 2025 is a treasure trove for returning Netflix TV shows, including the popular spinoff TV series of one of the streaming giant’s best rom-com movie trilogies of recent years. Netflix put romance stories front and center in the 2020s, whether those were set in an alternative historical period like Bridgerton, revolved around the festive season like Love at First Sight, or hilariously mixed romance and crime like Hit Man. The plethora of romantic comedies wouldn’t have been possible without the chart-topping teen rom-com contributing to the genre revival in the late 2010s, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

XO, Kitty Season 2 Review: I Once Doubted Netflix's To All The Boys Spinoff, But I’m So Grateful The Show Exists
XO, Kitty set up a packed season 2, and the show hits the ground running with more swoon-worthy romance, shocking twists, and heartfelt arcs.
Based on the book of the same name by Jenny Han, 2018’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before sweetly set up the central love story between Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky. While the story was very much focused on their fake relationship turning into a real one, the three To All The Boys movies effectively expanded the Song-Covey family universe, creating interest for various characters beyond Lara Jean. If her coming-of-age story earned its happily-ever-after in 2021’s Always and Forever, the trilogy ending gave way to focusing on other characters, like 2023’s spinoff TV show XO, Kitty proves.
XO Kitty Season 2 Is Now On Netflix & It Has Major Updates For To All The Boys' Characters
The Spinoff Offers Positive Updates About To All The Boys’ Main Couple
The first season focusing on Kitty Song Covey delivered much drama after she moved to Seoul to study where her mother also did, at Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS), and XO, Kitty season 2 released on Netflix on January 16, 2025. XO, Kitty season 1 explosively ended with Kitty having broken up with Dae due to her feelings for Yuri, before learning that Min Ho also had feelings for her, a recipe for disaster for season 2. While Kitty’s love life unsurprisingly exploded in XO, Kitty season 2, Peter Kavinsky’s cameo provided updates on To All The Boys’ characters.
Peter’s international lacrosse tournament was the perfect reason for his appearance, which also confirmed he and Lara Jean were still going strong.
XO, Kitty season 2 centering on Kitty learning more about her family by reuniting her grandmother with her sister who never left Korea, Soon Ja, prompted Margot’s involvement. However, Peter’s arrival in XO, Kitty season 2, episode 6 offered insights into the couple at the center of the To All The Boys trilogy. Peter’s international lacrosse tournament was the perfect reason for his appearance, which also confirmed he and Lara Jean were still going strong, albeit not thinking about marriage yet, despite Kitty’s unrelenting nudges in that direction. Peter’s cameo proved a balm in the mayhem of Kitty’s romantic life.
How XO Kitty's Romance Storylines Compare To The Movie Trilogy
To All The Boys’ Romances Were More Focused Than XO, Kitty’s
While the To All The Boys trilogy showed Margot’s romance with Josh and Kitty and Dae’s meet-cute, Lara Jean and Peter’s love story is indubitably the main one, letting them go through many hoops only for XO, Kitty season 2 to confirm their strong bond. To All The Boys’ appeal hasn’t wavered through the years, with the first film in the trilogy consistently staying around the 300 most-watched on Netflix (via What We Watched), and 2021’s Always and Forever earning its space among the best rom-coms of the last 5 years.
XO, Kitty season 2 includes two major cameos from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before characters, with Peter appearing in episode 6 and Margot doing so in episode 8.
To All The Boys employed one of the most-loved tropes in romance, kickstarting Peter and Lara Jean’s bond with a fake relationship. The story eventually developed into a coming-of-age one for both Peter and Lara Jean as they grew along their bond, letting the chaos of the first movie – started by none other than a very young and already meddling Kitty – subside. The popular movie trilogy thus followed Lara Jean and Peter together and down their individual paths, letting To All The Boys differ from XO, Kitty on the base of how exhaustive its focus on the main couple was.
Since the start, XO, Kitty differentiated itself as Kitty had a dual goal, to walk her mother’s footsteps in Korea and surprise Dae to be finally together in person. XO, Kitty only became more chaotic going forward, introducing multiple romantic interests for Kitty that couldn’t materialize in a proper romance due to other relationships. XO, Kitty seasons 1 and 2 effectively put Kitty on the path to know herself and her mother, but by season 2’s end, it also clarified who Kitty’s suitors are, hopefully giving a satisfying conclusion to her romantic drama in a potential XO, Kitty season 3.
XO, Kitty season 2 is streaming in its entirety on Netflix.
