Now in its third season, Netflix's high-octane Reacher-like series, The Night Agent, continues to break stereotypes. The second season aired one year ago, and now The Night Agent has just returned for an anticipated third season, and it's already a winner. The current season has debuted with a perfect 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated season of the series. This score is also higher than that of Reacher Season 3, which is at 96%. Given that this is the debut score, it might change as more reviews are weighed, but it is a good sign for the series nonetheless.
The Night Agent Season 3 is markedly different from its predecessors. While the show started with the premise of a conspiracy in Washington that throws a Night Action agent into a deep web of conspiracy, the new season widens its horizons. The season is more Peter-centric following the departures of fan-favorite characters like Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), and critics are praising this decision because it allows viewers to get to know Peter (Gabriel Basso) more intimately. Collider's Jen Vestuto was impressed with the story and lauded the team in her review of The Night Agent Season 3, saying,
With The Night Agent Season 3, [Shawn] Ryan and his creative team deliver a thriller that feels both entertaining and purposeful. It’s a far more disciplined approach than Season 2, and it clearly lays the groundwork for an even bigger fourth season. While a formal renewal hasn't been ordered, the writers are already at work, with plans to film at least part of the next chapter in Los Angeles. By tightening its storytelling, deepening its characters, and delivering deliberate, hard-hitting action sequences, The Night Agent has officially delivered its strongest season yet.
'The Night Agent' Season 4 Could Be Coming Sooner Than Anyone Expects
Series creator Shawn Ryan knows that viewers hate waiting for two years before they see their favorite action hero, and so does Netflix. Ryan recently revealed that while a formal renewal has yet to be announced, Season 4's writers' room has already been opened. The season finale lays some groundwork for an even bigger fourth season with the potential of a proper team-up between Peter and another agent. Ryan shared a progress update with Collider's Christina Radish, saying,
The answer is that we have a plan for Season 4. We're working on it. We're writing it. When I'm done with these interviews today, I'm going to read the first draft of episode three. Sony and Netflix have read the first two episodes. We're breaking episode five right now. So, the answer is that there is a plan and, hopefully, in the near future, we'll get the official greenlight to make it. But for the moment, we're just focusing on the scripts and the creative side. I want to keep the focus on Season 3 because that's what's coming out, and a lot still could change about Season 4. But to your point about Season 3, there is a plan to address the things that are left untied up at the end of Season 3.
