20 Years Later, One of the Best Sitcoms of the 21st Century Returns With Hilarious First Look [Exclusive]

In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Harlan Coben, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. At a time when revivals of our favorite noughties titles are as popular as ever, few expected to learn of a return for Malcolm in the Middle. In December 2024, lovers of this quirky sitcom were treated to the announcement of a reunion/revival special, subtitled Life’s Still Unfair, which will consist of four episodes. Not only that, but the likes of Frankie Muniz and Bryan Cranston would reprise their roles as Malcolm and Hal, respectively, alongside the likes of Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, Chris Kennedy Masterson as Francis, Justin Berfield as Reese, and Emy Coligado as Piama.

The return of the original cast members will be joined by new faces, including Keeley Karsten as Leah, Malcolm’s daughter; Vaughan Murrae as Kelly, Malcolm’s youngest sibling; Kiana Madeira as Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend; and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark as Dewey. Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will premiere on April 10, 2026, available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the US, as well as Disney+ internationally. The four episodes promise the same cozy chaos fans remember from the original six-year run, with the release of a full trailer in late December last year hinting that none of the cast have missed a beat.

Ahead of the show's long-awaited return this April, Collider has teamed up with Hulu to bring you an exclusive new image, as part of our ongoing Exclusive Spring Preview Week event. In the image, Malcolm seems typically exasperated during a takeout dinner, as he, arms stretched and eyes wide, seemingly rants about some sort of embarrassing carnage that has taken place. To return to a series after 20 years is no small feat for a team of writers, with the creator of the original series, Linwood Boomer, tasked with writing and executive producing this new installment. So what has the family been doing after two decades? A synopsis for the new series reads, "After shielding himself and his daughter from his family for over a decade, Malcolm is dragged back into their orbit when Hal and Lois demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party."
