Netflix's Devil May Cry drops a new glimpse at how season 2 will adapt the source material's most important conflict. Since its debut in 2001, Devil May Cry has been one of Capcom’s most popular action franchises. Titles like Devil May Cry 3 revitalized the brand after early criticism, while Devil May Cry 5 reaffirmed the franchise's relevance for modern audiences, selling millions of copies and reestablishing Dante as a premier icon of action video games.

Netflix’s animated Devil May Cry adaptation builds on the games' lore but charts its own continuity. Instead of an exact retelling of a single game’s plot, the Netflix show synthesizes elements from across the franchise to craft a new but familiar story.

Devil May Cry Season 2 Drops New Teaser Images

Vergil And Dante Finally Meet In Netflix's Devil May Cry

Devil May Cry anime creator and showrunner Adi Shankar has unveiled a couple of new images from season 2, confirming that the next installment will give Dante’s twin brother Vergil a major role. Dante and Vergil's encounter continues the adult animated adaptation of Capcom’s long-running action franchise, with the long-awaited confrontation between the Sparda twins, with Robbie Daymond voicing Vergil opposite Johnny Yong Bosch’s Dante and Scout Taylor-Compton returning as Lady. Devil May Cry season 2 premieres May 12, 2026.

Throughout the games, Dante embraces his human side, using his demonic heritage to protect the innocent, while Vergil pursues absolute power, believing strength alone prevents loss. Season 1 of Netflix’s Devil May Cry focuses on Dante gradually uncovering conspiracies involving demonic incursions as a demon hunter for hire. Vergil is Dante’s equal in skill and access to their father’s legacy. His return suggests the series will pivot from external threats to a deeply personal war.

Dante and Vergil fight in Devil May Cry season 2

In the Devil May Cry season 1 finale, Vergil leads an assault on a U.S.-run prison camp holding Makaians. However, the revelation that he's acting in allegiance to Mundus, the Dark Lord of Makai, complicates any heroic reading of his actions. Unlike prior incarnations of the story in which Vergil’s servitude is coerced, Vergil sheds the Nelo Angelo armor to reveal he's a conscious agent aligned with a demonic sovereign. Dante, meanwhile, ends the season imprisoned by Darkcom.

Devil May Cry Season 2 Will Look "Very" Different Thanks to One Important Change

Fans are still divided on Dante's portrayal in the Devil May Cry anime, but fortunately, it looks like things will change for the better in season 2.

Dante is skeptical of institutions, unwilling to pledge allegiance to demonic rulers or human militarization efforts. With Vergil now openly serving Mundus while claiming to protect oppressed Makaians, the brothers are bound to clash, though their eventual alliance is inevitable. When they inevitably confront each other, which seems to be quite soon, Devil May Cry season 2 will transform the brothers' rivalry into the central axis of the series’ broader human-versus-demon conflict.

As the twin sons of the legendary demon knight Sparda, Dante and Vergil interpret their legacy in irreconcilable ways. Dante channels his strength into protecting humanity, while Vergil pursues greater demonic power to prevent the kind of loss that scarred their childhood. Their usual clashes are fueled by philosophical opposition, but also deeply personal feelings, not too different from the complicated sibling relationships between Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, Sasuke and Itachi, or Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando.
