Netflix's recent Western series has all of its episodes available to stream on the platform, and the show presents itself as a breath of fresh air for those looking to binge an entry of the genre this weekend. Western TV shows have become quite popular in the last few years. Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone franchise is to thank for the genre's renaissance.
However, several other Western shows outside the Yellowstone franchise have since found success with the genre's revitalization. Netflix, like other streaming services, has been making the most out of the genre's resurgence. Multiple Netflix Western series have been released in the last few years, such as American Primeval, Ransom Canyon, Frontier, and more. One of them spans only one season, and it is a great binge.
Netflix's Recent Western Series Can Be Binged In A Weekend
The Abandons was released on Netflix on December 4, 2025. The Western series goes for something the genre does not do much, which is putting women front and center. Many popular Western shows present families led by their patriarchs, as was the case in Yellowstone with Kevin Costner's John Dutton, Josh Brolin's Royal Abbott in Outer Range, Harrison Ford's Jacob Dutton in 1923, and more.
That is why the Netflix series feels like a breath of fresh air, as The Abandons' story focuses on the clash between two families led by Lena Headey's Fiona Nolan and Gillian Anderson's Constance Van Ness. The Netflix Western series sees Van Ness make a move on Nolan's farm, putting the latter and the orphans she took in up against a rich dynasty.
The Abandons' 7 episodes are streaming on Netflix worldwide, and given how they range from 35 minutes to 54 minutes, the Western series can be easily binged in just 5 hours, making it easy to finish in just one night as we approach the weekend. The Abandons' cast also includes names like Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), and more.
The Abandons' Cancellation Does Not Detract From A Weekend Binge
There is only one problem when it comes to the Netflix series, and that is how The Abandons has been cancelled after one season. While that is disappointing for anyone who would like to see more of this fresh take on the Western genre, the story in season 1 is solid enough to merit a weekend binge, and the cast turns in great performances.
The Abandons' series finale is an explosive thrill ride that caps off the Netflix Western series to the best it can, and while there is a clear setup for where the show could go next, the way it ends is striking enough that it makes for a solid ending for those who binge it this weekend. While the cancellation is not ideal, The Abandons is worth checking out on Netflix.
