Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider.  He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.

Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.

Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

Netflix is a tantalizing treasure trove of bingeable and exceedingly rewatchable series of various genres. It goes without saying that its sci-fi catalog is also one of the best television has to offer, with countless shows that are perfect for a first-time viewer and many rewatch opportunities after that. The sci-fi shows on the streamer offer a variety of experiences, from emotional journeys to epic romances to pulsating action, all worth watching over and over again and satisfying even the most intense sci-fi fanatics.

Among Netflix's sci-fi catalog, some names stand out, such as the iconic sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror, which explores the bleak effects of social media and technology. The mind-bending 3 Body Problem, based on novels by Liu Cixin, showcases how an astrophysics debacle called the three-body problem could possibly see Earth invaded. Overall, there is something for everyone, and the streamer recently brought on the critically acclaimed 1997 sci-fi series, Stargate SG-1, all 10 seasons of it, to bolster its ranks.

Since the series, which was a follow-up to the original 1994 film, Stargate, arrived on the streaming platform in mid-February 2026, it has been making some headway. According to data from FlixPatrol, the sci-fi series has ranked in the Top 10 in several countries, including Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. The beloved series is also making a mark for itself on the French streamer, M6+, establishing itself in the Top 10 Charts of this surprising streaming platform. Stargate SG-1 has returned to Netflix following the decision in late 2022 to remove all 10 seasons of the first TV show in the franchise and shift them to Prime Video following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM.

The 'Stargate' Franchise Expands Beyond 'Stargate SG-1'

Stargate SG-1 was created by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner and follows the titular SG-1 military team from Earth as they travel to distant planets using an alien portal. The success of both the 1994 movie and the 1997 series led to the franchise's explosion, with spin-offs such as Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate Universe, Stargate Origins, and the animated series Stargate Infinity, as well as direct-to-DVD films Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. Prime Video is developing a new Stargate series, which is sure to gladden the hearts of fans of the franchise. Joe Flanigan, who played Lt. Colonel John Sheppard in Stargate Atlantis, recently confirmed that a writers' room for the revival is now in full swing, saying:

"Martin Gero called me and he said, 'Why don't you drop by the writers room here in LA?' So I think I'm going to on Wednesday. But there's a lot of NDAs involved in that. So don't expect me to be able to give you any information."

Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
